I had never had my eyes dilated before and I told them that I had driven by myself. They told me that I would be fine and sent me on my way. I went out to the parking lot and couldn't see a thing and to make it worse I dropped my keys on the floor. Luckily I found them but they wouldn't let me back in the office because they were concerned about Covid. This is the worst experience I've ever had as a patient. They are very uncaring especially the front desk staff.
My mother was given a 2pm appointment today and was taken back to “wait” for the doctor at 2:45 and at 3:45 was still waiting to be seen. Mind you, this office closes at 4:30pm. She was asked to come in By 1:45 and to have a patient wait for hours to be seen when given an appointment is not right. This seems to be par for the course at this facility in Bethesda. I’m disappointed in the way my mother was made to wait for hours to be seen and I’m sure others have had the same experience. Something needs to change!!
Dr. Guo changed my life. I had been dealing with an eye issue for 15 years that I had started to accept as just a fact of life. Dr. Guo immediately found the issue and treated it to a huge success. This issue affected every part of my life and is now pretty much gone. I suffered with this for so long that even over a month after Dr. Guo helped me I am still in disbelief that I get to live my life this comfortably. Thank you Drs. Guo and Gonzales. I am deeply grateful for your help.
Frustrating experience with the Wilmer Eye Institute in Bethesda. They called to reschedule appointment on November 14, and they said the earliest they could see us is sometime next year. This reschedule request was due to a conflict on their end, not ours. They also couldn't manage to get eyedrop prescription submitted properly after several appointments and phone calls back and forth. Eye issue has not been resolved. I wish we had gone somewhere else from the start.
Current: switched to five stars. Last two visits were great! Previously: The doctors and facilities are first class. The scheduling is pathetic. Plan to endlessly wait and wait and wait. A 20 minutes appointment takes 2-2.5 hours with all the waiting. Better clear your schedule for the day!
I see Dr. SIKTER I saw her first about nine years ago at a different location. She’s medical Director of Willmar. I saw her again for the third time since so many years. February 2023 about a procedure she’s the best doctor anybody could have I have my choice of anybody I choose. I am a very critical person. she is also at John Hopkins hospital she has so many credits towards her. I am putting her down for people to realize that I see they did not see her thank you.
I developed a nasty case of bacterial conjunctivitis from the hospital after a surgery in a completely unrelated area. It had already resisted a couple of attempts at treatment from non Wilmer optometrists. My regular ophthalmologist at Wilmer in Columbia was unavailable, so I booked an appt with Dr. Suzy Chen, an optometrist at Wilmer Bethesda. There was a line to enter at my first appt, but they moved us through fairly quickly. The check in person was very cordial and efficient. Wait time was reasonable. Dr. Chen was very attentive, pleasant, and thorough. She put me on a different course of antibiotics and sent me home for the looooong holiday weekend. Over the weekend my eye did not improve a great deal, and the other eye became infected also. When I returned for a follow up with Dr. Chen, she was clearly unhappy that my condition had not changed much. this appt was booked after her normal full morning schedule, so she basically stayed after her regular hours to see me After another thorough exam, she decided I needed to see a corneal specialist for an opinion and actually went down the hall to solicit a colleague to come and look at my eyes. We chatted while we waited for him. Dr. Shekhawat, who was also kind enough to fit me in. In total, she spent over an hour with me past her departure time just to make sure I was getting the care I needed. Ultimately, my regimen was not changed but a culture was ordered to determine if I had MRSA and would require a new antibiotic. While I'm not looking forward to "waiting and seeing" how this progresses, I felt much better knowing that I'd been seen by a specialist and the decisions concerning my care had been thoughtfully made all around. I know very few doctors who would have done what Dr. Chen did for me. Not only is she a good physician, but she clearly cares about her patients. While I wish there had been a more immediate answer with regards to my infection, I feel as if I've been given respectful and considerate care, over and above what I might have expected from a standard medical visit. Would very much recommend Dr. Chen and Dr. Shekhawat and this facility.
I supposed to have a surgery on March 3. It was scheduled by one of their surgical coordinators. As the day went by and I did not receive any call, I called the surgery department and this was when they told me that” you are not on the list for tomorrow”. I hung up and called the one that scheduled me, and this was when she told me “remember I called you on the 27 to cancel your surgery due to your pre-op not being done”. Words could not explain how shocking was that. The last time I spoke with the lady was on Feb 7, and on that same day I told her how lucky I was since I just saw my internist, and that was when she scheduled the surgery. And by the way I still went ahead and had a pre op done on the 28..if by any chance she called me as she implied on the 27 I would have told her that my pre op is for tomorrow. And she continued by telling me”what a coincidence to have someone else with the same name and same phone number”. Smart, very smart of her, right! Trying to cover her mistakes. Since Feb 7 we never spoke, saw or emailed to each other. Very unprofessional, incompetent and careless at the same time ,she was having my chart in front of her while talking to someone that I don’t even know about all my private medical records. And she had the audacity of telling me that we spoke. I’m sorry to say that: this is people like her that contributed towards Johns Hopkins losing credentials. Good morning Sorry I have to come back once more this morning that supposed to be the surgical day. By being so frustrated I could not sleep last night. I know incompetent and careless people like her sleep like a baby. The thing is you know about all the changes you have to do before having a surgery, right! The truth is: the cancellation might be a good thing, could be a sign from The Holy Power not to do it right now. But the way she put it bothered me. She never contacted me and argued that she did. She should be responsible for her own mistakes in that matter, no one is perfect. But please lady don’t put it on me, at this point you better look for the other party that you messed up as well. And as calm as you were I assume that you are a pro at covering your tracts We all know for a fact that Johns Hopkins records all conversation with patients via phone, that could definitely help you find the person you talked to on the 27 of February and if there was no recordings at this specific time don’t forget to put “eyewitness on your side”.
Hate front desk staff, always rude- there was one lady that I really liked, she's no longer here. Have yet to experience any miracle with my condition. Frederick office staff are also rude but they have a young physician who is really good. Too bad it's too far from my house.
I recently had an extraordinary experience at Wilmer Eye Institute after a not so good one with a different practitioner at the same institute. Dr. Katherine Funari spent time with a careful and unusual diagnostic procedures and explained everything she was doing. I would feel very confident returning to her and referring others to her as well. She is an exceptional practitioner!
