Winthrop Public Library & Museum
"The Winthrop Public Library is comprised of two connected buildings – the Frost Library building c.1899 and the George M. Hyde addition built in 1972. Although library service in Winthrop preceded the erection of the Frost Building, it was the first facility in Winthrop devoted solely to that role.A six member elected Board of Trustees is charged with the responsibility of managing the Library. It develops policy and delegates daily operation to a qualified director and staff.Board meetings are held monthly at the Library and are open to the public. Minutes of Trustee Board meetings are public record."

This is such a great library. My children and I really enjoy coming and we go at least once a week. They have a fabulous children’s section and a lovely librarian who clearly loves her job and children. Definitely recommend!
Very enjoyable & a lot to do at the library. Enjoyable reading & able to order books without having to pay to read a book once.

We lived in Winthrop a number of years ago, on the top floor of a triple decker at the top of Summit Ave. - probably THE highest vantage point in town - 100 steps from a tiny beach - with fantastic views of Broad Sound, a blizzard or two and at least one hurricane... Our son was born while we lived there, and he and I spent hours and hours at Winthrop Library when he was little, where he We! loved the Children's Room and the dear Library Ladies, especially every Friday. Just as we'd established our library routine, word came of plans to close the library! I said, "I'll be darned if I'm gonna live in a town without a library!" And so, we joined other friends of the library, holding "Save Our Library!" signs on one of the two roads into and out of town. And soon, thank goodness, funds were found and the library still operates to this day.
A public library is an important asset to the community and the Winthrop Public Library and its staff do us all proud in providing fantastic service to the young and old of our community. And this is done with very limited resources. I thank the staff and recommend that if you have not been there lately you take a look and see what is offered.

The Winthrop Library is the equivalent to receiving a full scholarship to every Ivy league college. With a mere library card your world opens up to thousands of books ,magazines, dvds, audio tapes, free museum passes and computer access. The library staff is very professional.A great children's section.Guests speakers and authors.Did I mention free creative writing and drawing courses?Winthrop is a hidden gem and the library is the Star of India.Gerard Leary
