The maintenance team has done a good job of staying on top of things when I request. This place offers affordable living and allows pets. In other areas I've lived finding anything cheaper is unheard of especially with the option of a washer and dryer. Another nice thing is I also feel safe in this area and I never feel like I have to worry. What gets to be unsettling is neighbors that litter around the area and leave their trash bags outside for longer than 24 hours which is not the owners fault.
As a traveling nurse, I have stayed in many different locations and apartments. My most recent stay was in Woodcrest Apartments' corporate suite and one of the best experiences I have had. The apartment had everything that I needed for my stay, and offered short term lease options with great amenities and the friendliest staff ever! I worked 2nd and 3rd rotating shifts and never felt unsafe coming and going in the parking lots and never felt unsafe in the apartment. The grounds were kept nice and clean and made my short term travel very pleasant to come home to. I would recommend this community to anyone for sure!
I worked and traveled quite a bit so I can’t speak on the amenities but I can speak on the poor communication and overall lack of respect for the tenants. First - I will say the place is decently priced for the size, etc and they do allow pets with an additional fee which was also a plus. Moving right along, I brought my dog down to meet the staff and alert them that I now had a pet. I was told I could start paying $100/mo, until I satisfied the fee and that those payments could start the following month. 7 days later I received a notice on my door that said “Last warning - pay now” Which is not at all what the property manager and I discussed. Strike 1. Once the weather heated up, I started using my AC. I noticed after a few days that the carpet in my hallway was soaked.. after a few days out of town - it smelled like mold. I have a mold allergy so I alerted management stayed in a hotel for a few days. I was told it was fixed so I went back home.. only to find the same issue a few days later. Strike 2. As my pup started to like the outdoors, I’d let him out onto my patio for a few hours in the morning when I went to work and bring him in around noon. He loved it and neighbors would tell me they liked watching him play out there. I came home after he and I had been out of town for about a week to yet another notice on my door that said “Final warning - your dog can’t be left on the patio without supervision.” Not only had management never spoken with me about this, if dogs are allowed in the units, they should be allowed on the patio as well? Strike 3. At this point I was already ready to move out but a job change motivated me to make that change a bit quicker. I had been living there for about 9 months and had signed a 12 month contract. I turned in my 30-Day notice and gave a forwarding address to send any fees that needed to be paid for breaking my lease. I was told I needed to find someone to sublet the apartment. So, I tried that out. Didn’t work. So, I sent management an email explaining my efforts and told them I’d be moving my furniture out and leaving the keys in a specific location for them. A week later I received a text from management saying she was sending unpaid fees to a lawyer to start the eviction process because I was “refusing to move out” As to which I responded with a screen shot of our emails that apparently has slipped her mind. She apologized and we left it at that. For me, there’s a certain way you communicate with and treat people and there’s a certain way you don’t. Woodcrest missed the mark for me.
I've lived at Woodcrest for give or take 6 years now and while its not been a perfect place to stay, there isn't many out there and all cost much, much, much more than Woodcrest, I've enjoyed living here. There is a nice pool that is freely accessible in the summer, a dog area, a playground, and a sports complex. The staff and management have always responded in a timely manner when I've had an issue or a problem to take care of. My wife has lived here longer than I have, and she mentioned that it felt like our stove and refrigerator were a little old, plus an older style hanging light that she didn't like, and they replaced all 3 the next week. Also mentioned our carpet was getting old, and we got new carpet installed last week. I can't speak highly enough of the staff here and making sure our lives are easier and comfortable as needed. The area that the complex sits in is also nice, quiet, and safe despite what a few reviews have mentioned here. There is a minimum security women's prison right next to it, yet we've never seen or heard of an issue from there. Finally, for us at least, other than government assisted housing and far, far less safer places in Decatur, you won't be able to find anything cheaper apartment wise.
I moved to Woodcrest Apartments in February of this year 2018 & I subleased a unit that had 8 months left on the lease. I recently renewed for another year because I'm quite happy here. It's quiet, multiple amenities, diverse as far as the residents whom all appear friendly, the office staff is great, maintenance staff is professional & all of my maintenance request & work orders are filled within 24 no longer than 48 hours, the rent is reasonable, you can't beat free cable & I was able to do a few upgrades myself so I have ZERO complaints. Best advice I can give to anyone considering moving here, check it out for yourself.
I have been staying in Woodcrest apartments for almost a year now! I was very hesitant considering the reviews here, but the management and the maintenance only surprise me every time I put in a work order. All emergency issues I have had have always, always been taken care of immediately and my general maintenance requests have been taken care of the very next day with out the need of any consequent reminder. I generally don’t write reviews, but this one is for all those who are considering the place and have doubts!
The apartments are decent, and most of the staff is okay. While it claims to be a pet friendly place, and in all outward appearances, it is, so many neighbors seek to rat out any small problems they have. We get a lot of calls about us not picking up our dogs poop, even though our dog didn't poop at all. It seems that they don't understand that girl dogs squat to pee and poop. I would seriously second guess your choice to come here if you have pets, there may be a better option.
The staff here at Woodcrest are friendly and they truly make the residents feel that they care. The entire area as a whole is clean and peaceful. You may run into little problems such as leaks accidents do happen or inconsiderate neighbors but just mention it to the landlord and for as long as it is a reasonable complaint or request, it will be dealt with immediately. Be mindful that many residents live here. Patience lots of it! goes a long way. Many renters make the mistake of thinking that because they are paying rent, they can do whatever they please. They need to know that they are sharing space with other people inside one building and they must have consideration and respect for the other tenants and the property that is not entirely theirs.
Reasons to not rent at this site: 1. When we first moved in we had a water leak from the apartment upstairs. Maintenance came to "fix" the leak. However, they never came back to patch the ceiling. We lived like this for over a year. They also left scratches in our tub from the ladder. Over a period of time, mold developed in the bathroom. 2. I called to have my window in the master bedroom fixed because it Wouldn't stay open. Ya... I still had to prop it open with something to get fresh air. 3. Maintenance entered my apartment for a problem that we never submitted they like to enter when your not home 4 . water entered my living room during a heavy rain. Nobody showed up for 2 days... Buckets in my living room collecting water while having 2 of my youngest grand children over was a challenge... No joy there!!! Then, I had to live with water stains on my wall while paying $702 a month... On time for several months after... 5. My boyfriend was walking the trash to the dumpster when a maintenance man was at the unit above him flicked a cigarette nearly hitting him 6. If you have asthma, this is not the place for you!!! Smoking in the halls is very common and stinks!!! 7. Moisture and mold throughout my unit made me sick.. I moved out, and now I am able to breath again!!! 8. I cut my foot in the pool because the concrete is choppy... Not once, but twice within the same day... 9. Office personal is nice until you move out... After that, my BF received vindictive emails and for some reason, they called my son, that has nothing to do with anything there... 10. If I could post pics, I certainly would!!! Highly recommend you do your research first...
If you want to be robbed, get bitten by a pit-bull, if you want your apartment broken into, risk stepping on hypodermic needles, have a stranger offer your children heroin, meth, weed, how about a prostitute this is the place you. Enjoy! Owner claims no dangerous dogs. But take a look for yourself, the people walk their dogs out at night, so that no one can see them. Ask the local police about drugs in that area, look around the neighboring apartment buildings and be your own judge.
