I've been going to the Walnut Creek Y for almost 2 years now, lifting weights almost everyday. The facility itself is decent, but you can tell the YMCA is lacking funding for basic repairs. There are a lot of people that attend this facility, many who don't have basic gym etiquette and they probably have a free or very subsidized membership, which adds to the reason the Y is underfunded. The unsupervised teens don't put any weights away or wipe up their sweat from machines. I have asked staff members to address this issue, but they are too cowardly to tell someone to wipe their sweat up and put their weights away. I'd like to see more etiquette training for new/young members and staff with a backbone to uphold gym rules.

I have always loved this gym until I took my niece last night. We were in the cardio room doing flips on the bars (something I have never been yelled at for, and have seen multiple other people do) when a women came out and rudely told us to stop. I said okay and my 7 year old niece, who did not hear her, did one more. She then came around the corner and screamed at us to leave the area, I informed her that we were doing just that. What happened next appalled me. She began to get very close to my niece and I, forcing us to practically run down the stairs. I did not understand why she was doing this because she told us to leave the cardio area, not the facility. My niece had to use the restroom so we went into the women's locker room. The women then followed us in there while my niece was going to the bathroom, I felt harassed and violated at this point because she then continued to stand there and watch us while we were getting dressed. My niece began to cry because she "did not like the lady watching her put her clothes on" I told the women she was making her extremely uncomfortable and that she needed to leave the room. The women replied with "No you did not listen and I will be escorting you out the front door". She changed her mind from making us leave the cardio room to making us leave the building when we did nothing more to aggravate her or the situation. This experience angered me but most of all it emotionally disturbed my niece to the point of her crying the whole way home because the "boss lady would not stop yelling at her and getting really close to her while she was getting dressed" The harassment I received from the women staff member (grey hair, bob cut, looked to be in her 60's) made me extremely disappointed in whoever is in charge of staffing at this facility. I warn you, do not take your children here if you do not want them to come home emotionally distraught and feeling violated!

Wanted to thank the staff and specifically Beth and Austin for making our experience amazing. Needed to loosen up a bit before the fights tonight, being from our of town options were limited. They welcomed us with open arms. Really appreciate it.
