This class was fantastic! I 100% recommend taking the portraiture class. The instructor is so talented in his craft and in teaching. He was thoughtful and supportive throughout the process and was able to teach the skills in a way that was kind, easy to understand and was so patient as I asked him to repeat steps or re-explain the process. The facility was great, the environment was great and the camaraderie with other students was perfect. I did find this class challenging but never did I feel unsupported. I’m so happy I took this class.
Taking this class was a great help in improving my art skills. It consisted of the basics in traditional drawing and measuring that would help in understanding how to be more accurate. I now have a very good understanding of the material and can apply it to my own artwork. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in learning how to draw or to improve their skills.
Intro to classical drawing: I really enjoyed this class and was challenged by it. William is a knowledgeable and committed instructor and answered our questions thoroughly as they came up. The handouts he gave us are very good and will hopefully remind me of the valuable information I learned in the workshop, which allowed me to make better drawings. I would recommend this workshop and I intend to take others in the future.
This class was exactly what I was looking for: hands-on instruction in techniques and approaches, structured steps to take for every portrait, and personalized guidance. I feel like I have tools and methods I can take away from the class and apply to my art at home. Highly recommend!
William is an amazing teacher. His instructions were always clear. His comments on technique and progress were always insightful, and he was was always available when anyone had a question.
I took an Introduction to Classical Oil Painting workshop, and I am very happy that I took this from William. He gives practical instructions on how to prepare materials, how to efficiently organize the palette, and how to plan and build up the paintings. His instructions are clear and the curriculum is well organized. Throughout the workshop, he constantly gives individual feedbacks to each and every students. As a beginner, I feel much more confident in oil painting now. I’m planning to come back for his other workshops, too.
My introduction to classical drawing class at ZAFA was the first formal art class I had ever taken besides a college pottery course. I had many reservations about group style teaching and reached out to William to ask some questions and see if I could stop by and view the space. He responded quickly and invited me to meet with him at ZAFA! All my concerns were addressed. William was generous with his explanations and made me feel comfortable about taking the class. I took a total of 10 classes and my art and art confidence improved dramatically. I enjoyed the way William taught the group—giving us a short explanation of how to start each drawing, letting us explore and stopping us at critical points throughout the exercise to redirect our focus. I would recommend this class to anyone looking to start their art journey or refine their skills! I’ll be taking the portrait class in January.
