Founded in 1957, the Abbeville County Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation of materials and architecture that have historical significance to Abbeville County.
The mission of the Abbeville County Historical Society is to share all that is preserved with Abbeville County residents and County visitors for the present and future.
The current focus of the Society is to continue it’s efforts of preservation and restoration of the McGowan-Barksdale-Bundy House, which serves as the Abbeville County Historical Society’s Headquarters. The house, a true architectural treasure, was graciously deeded to the Society by Mr. J.D. Bundy, of Monroe, North Carolina, in 1989.
