I was passing by and saw the piano store open with a sign of feel free to play. I unluckily eagles in during the middle of a lesson so the lady just said that i could go to a playing room. I got to play in this amazing studio piano room area and played a quick piece. The lady seemed very nice. If i lived in New York and was looking for piano lessons i would definitely check them out.
My daughter has been taking piano lesson at Absolute Piano with Tomoko Shimizu for 5 years. The store is a great location for downtown Brooklyn families. It's bright and airy and easy to get to. I purchased my piano from them, where they let me first rent a piano then apply the months' rental fees towards the purchase of a new piano. They were quick and helpful and the piano is a great value. Tomoko has been an amazing teacher. My daughter started when she was 3 1/2 years old. Tomoko made it fun and age appropriate. Her background in child education and classical music training really helped guide my daughter through many years of piano lessons. Now, she has a strong love of music, looks forward to her weekly lessons and has learned to work hard. Tomoko also worked with my daughter this past spring to audition for and get into a prestigious NYC music school. It's a truly hidden gem here in Brooklyn.
When I was learning how to play the piano and didn't have one at home, I practiced here for months. They offer very reasonable rates to practice at some of their pianos, and some of them are silent pianos, which was great for me as a beginner. Friendly and accommodating staff!
Absolute Piano has been Absolutely AMAZING!!! Joanne is an incredible teacher and helped me learn many of the fundamentals of music theory and piano. After a couple years, I'm now working on my first scoring composition! I also rented a piano and later purchased through their rent to buy program and ultimately just sold the piano back to Absolute last week. EVERYTHING has been top notch. I wish there was an 11 star option for reviews. Please use them of any of the above if you want a positive life changing experience!
I take lessons here twice a week and they have great teachers and pianos and I couldn’t be more satisfied. I’m also allowed to practice here in a booth every sunday for free which is very helpful for my practice especially considering how i do not have a real piano at home.
I am renting a piano from Absolute Piano and the experience has been great. There was some kind of weird squeaky noise coming from the pedal after the piano was moved in, and they sent a technician, Kate Cahill, out to fix it, who was willing to make a number of trips back on her own accord to make sure the issue was resolved. Kate is awesome and very professional. I love my piano.
This is a magical studio! Our daughter has taken lessons here for four years, and I cannot say enough about the entire operation - the teachers are amazing - SO musically gifted and our daughter has learned not only to play piano beautifully but really how to approach any artistic task - with focus, with joy, with understanding that it will be hard sometimes and that it is best when shared. The studio is warm and bright and quiet - when we were ready to purchase a piano they helped us find one with beautiful sound that our whole family could enjoy and which was within our range at the time. The GEM of DUMBO.
This place is amazing! I purchased my piano from here earlier this year - they have a wide range of options suitable for many different budgets, and I was able to find a high-quality and well-kept piano that fit my needs perfectly. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgable, and I was very happy with the piano I bought, and with the payment options offered. I've been playing on it for months now and couldn't be happier!
I highly recommend Tomoko as a piano teacher. She is truly passionate about music and about teaching. Both my ten years old daughter and my eight years old son, as well as myself, have been taking weekly lessons with her for several years now, and we all love it. Tomoko is patient and gentle, yet takes herself and her students seriously and pushes us encouragingly to develop. She does not only focus on our skills but also expand our musical education and horizons more broadly. Tomoko is versatile and masters various styles and while trained as a classic pianist plays also Jazz and its sub styles. She focuses her teaching on finding beautiful pieces that fit each one of us and our temperament, and not on the more monotonic text book pieces. She has gotten both of our kids to play beautifully quite complicated pieces, and arranges — together with her husband, a jazz guitar player— wonderful recitals twice a year. The Absolute piano store is wonderful. It carries a wide range of pianos. The owner and staff are super knowledgable and helpful.
Absolute helped us step by step in the buying process. They were honest and very knowledgable. The free initial tuning they provided was a nice touch, and left our 15 year old, $3500 piano sounding like a brand-new, higher end model. Very pleased.
