Food was delicious! Nothing like real authentic homemade Mexican food. I had the shredded chicken. Potatoes with cactus. A side of the cactus salad and a iced Mexican chocolate. I’ll definitely be coming back.Food: 5/5
A very good place to get the kind of good homestyle Mexican food there's a scarcity of elsewhere in this area. Very nice people and a nice, airy space.Food: 5/5
Very very nice place. Local spot. It is a rose in a bush of thorns. The area around the restaurant has fallen on hard times. As you drive to the restaurant you see the falling businesses in the area. Then you come upon the Abuelita’s and it is well represented. Clean out side, parking lot well lite and maintained. No one hanging around outside. Once you go inside the restaurant, the staff is quick to greet you and tell how to ordering works. My wife and I had a fantastic meal. The food is hot hot and tasty. The staff are constantly on the floor mopping, sweeping and quick to pick up the dishes. I got the small plate and almost could not finish it. We look forward to going back. Just make sure you go before the sun goes down. More then worth the trip. Best Mexican food I had thus far in Richmond.
Very nice experience... the menu changes from day to day, however the basic things, like Tacos seems to be consistent. The employees all seem to be friendly and the establishment is very well kept. I'd highly recommend if you're in the area.
One of the best "hidden gems" in the RVA area. If Abuelita's was downtown, in the fan, etc. it would be on every list of "best spots in Richmond". Food is incredible and a unique experience to most "traditional" Mexican food you find in Virginia. Also, for a restaurant I would put in the "quick service" food category, the service and staff friendliness has been incredible every time I've gone. Can't recommend enough.
The food was so tasty. The place looked new and clean. There were plenty of customers. A place to go again. They did forget to put the pico de gallo i bought in my to go bag so that was disappointing. I was looking forward to it and did not know it wasn't there til I reached my destination. Vegetarian options: They did have vegetarian stews.
Awesome authentic Mexican food in a clean and cute atmosphere with great service. We sampled a variety of the stews, which they rotate, and decided on the chicken tinga and the pork and cactus. Both were delicious and we ordered the plate with rice and beans, which came with tortillas to build your own tacos. We will definitely be back!
One of my friends recently introduced me to Abuelita's and set a very high bar. I gotta say, I'm a convert now. The food is authentic and delicious, with rotating stew options. Everything is fresh with high quality ingredients. On top of that, the staff is excellent and very helpful. I've dined in and ordered food to go, which have all been very positive experiences. If you haven't gone yet, you're missing out!
Easy to order online it was our first time so we were just guessing what we should order. The food was packaged up really nicely and organized for our to-go order! Staff were great, place was clean and the food was ready when I arrived. Best of all - everything we ordered was SOOO GOOD! Kids ate their entire meal. I'm ready to go back to try something new!
Absolutely delightful. The staff was so friendly and helpful! I had the chicken chorizo cream stew quesadilla and it blew my mind. The birria fries here are delightful as well. This place is a gem and everyone needs to try it!
