Admissions information on Adelphi's graduate programs in Arts Education (Visual Art and Educational Theatre)
Welcome to graduate Arts Education at Adelphi University in New York! The arts are alive and thriving at Adelphi. Echoing the tradition of Adelphi’s historic Children’s Centre for the Creative Arts (a leader in the progressive arts education movement of the 20th century) the graduate programs in arts education provide pre-service teacher candidates an initiation into the creative process that underlies a variety of art forms, such as movement, storytelling, theatre, visual arts, and creative writing, among others.
We offer graduate programs in Visual Art Education and Educational Theatre. The Adelphi M.A. program in Art Education is studio-based, hands-on, and experiential.
Adelphi’s programs in Educational Theater prepare the performing arts major for multiple roles in the world of theatre education as teaching artists, theatre educators, artistic directors, and arts education coordinators.

The Adelphi graduate programs of study in Arts Education includes foundational courses in arts education philosophies and theories of learning and development in the arts. These major courses are supplemented by offerings in theatre, museum education, arts therapy, child and youth literacies, and special needs education. Students select from an array of exploratory arts or studio art courses. Beyond the foundational courses and studio electives, students explore curriculum design and assessment, undertake small-scale arts education research in the capstone masters seminar, and finally complete mentored student teaching. Aside from their work as teaching artists, exemplary students in the program have pursued professional opportunities on campus and beyond, national conference presentations, and publications in the field.
