Adena State Memorial
"Adena was the 2000-acre estate of Thomas Worthington 1773-1827, sixth governor of Ohio and one of the state's first United States Senators. The mansion house, completed in 1806-1807, has been restored to look much as it did when the Worthington family lived there, including many original Worthington family furnishings. The house is one of only three houses designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe still standing in the country."

The mansion tour was excellent, and our guide was very well spoken and knowledgeable about all the groups questions. Beautiful grounds to walk around.
A great place to learn about Ohio history. Most impressive are the gardens and State Seal Overlook. As a kid, the challenge was to ride a bike or run to the top without stopping. The reward was the accomplishment. The amazing view was a worthy award for it.
Enjoyed going through the museum. Lots of interesting History. Only went through first floor of Mansion due to stairs and friends couldn't manage stairs. Tour host was very informative. There is wheelchair access to first floor and museum. Want to go back to tour the grounds. Gift shop has lots to offer also.
We didn't plan on coming here but so glad we did!!! The grounds were beautiful!! The tour guide was amazing!!! So much to learn in this hidden gem!!!
Attended a family member's high school graduation party. They have a medium sized room located in the Visitors Entrance / Gift Shop building that they rent if you want to hold an event there. They were also holding their annual heirloom plant sale & I bought 2 beautiful hanging baskets . It's just a beautiful place. The view of Ross County from up there is just really pretty.
Great Ohio History site. Excellent docent tour!
Well maintained historical place. Adena Mansion was built for Thomas Worthington in 1807. Ohio History connection organization kept this mansion very well. So many old artifacts you can find there. Our tour guide lady was so good she shared all the information about the Mansion and Thomas Worthington and his family.
So this is the 6th governor of Ohio's estate, and it is quite interesting to peruse. The home wasn't nearly as large or grand as I had thought it might be. And the entire estate buildings, gardens, etc is in some real need of maintenance. But still, very interesting.
Very beautiful compound and well designed museum/information center. Guided tour of the mansion was well done with lots of interesting and tantalizing tidbits. Only drawback to me was the grounds and paths were not very ADA friendly, especially having to use a cane to walk and for powered wheelchairs trying to maneuver into the ramp entrance at the mansion. Be prepared for a decent hike from the center to the mansion granted, there is a separate parking lot near the mansion but physically challenged individuals and companions will need to weigh the options. So be forewarned, but don't let that keep you from stopping to see this great slice of Ohio history.
This was a really interesting and amazing place to tour. To hear how different they lived so many years ago is so fascinating than what it's like today. If you like to learn about history and how different people lived so long ago, this would be worth a drive to Chillicothe, or if you're just driving by.
