DO NOT SELL YOUR GEAR AT THEIR ONLINE STORE. Their online department will lie to you, change the original quote, and will do anything to take your money away. You pretty much have to work for them, for free. AFTER you ship your gear over to Adorama, your gear will sit there and do nothing for over a week until you call them to see if they picked up your gear. Yes it was sitting there. Then they will lie and tell you there's fog and haze on ALL the gear, AND will offer you half of the original quote because "the market fluctuates rapidly". My gear is in new condition, so they are trained to lie. They will interrupt you and talk over you over the phone. I had to raise my voice "sir, SIR, SIR!!" to get them to stop controlling the conversation. And apparently they are not the same people who priced your gear so I couldn't talk to the correct person. I was talking to a middle man who is trained to haggle you. I feel like I was treated like someone to take advantage of and with disrespect of my property. Completely unprofessional. After they neglected my property, lied to me, and were rude to me, I had to tell him to return my gear and send me the tracking number.....and now another few business days later, I had to contact them again and THEY HAVEN'T SHIPPED MY GEAR TO UPS YET!! Unbelievable. I have to keep calling and email to get anywhere with your online employees. Edit 1: I finally have a tracking number. Hopefully they didn't damage my gear along the way. Edit 2: My package came 3 days late and I have batteries missing from the package. Unbelievable. The box was a little smashed in on the corner but the camera gear was fine. I wish they would label "fragile" on the shipping box so deliveries are more careful. Edit 3: After emailing Adorama again, they shipped over the batteries. The box was completely smashed, but thankfully it's just batteries. This entire process of misery lasted at least an entire month. I need a drink. ‍
To start, I’m incredibly disappointed by Adorama. The short version is I don’t think there are any bad people, I just think it’s one of the most poorly ran companies with maybe some questionable policies. This is long and is still an ongoing process, I almost want to give two stars because Steve in their sales department were really good to work with and helpful. But since they had the sale, the entirety of the rest of the company, logistics, support, and returns have all failed at their jobs. I honestly don’t want to attribute this to malice or deceit, I think it is a combination of terrible systems, bad internal communications, and poor follow through. I purchased a Sony A7IV and a Sigma 24-70 Art taking advantage of two of their promotions: bonus trade in credit from Sony for new purchases and a 24 month no interest financing. That part was managed well by Steve in the sales department and they made that happen quicker and easier than I expected. Since then things have just gone downhill. Trade in was sent on Wednesday, purchase was made on a Thursday hoping to have everything to use for the following weekend 8 days later. Delivery arrived on Monday. Shipping was normal and arrived safely. I open it up and start checking it out since it’s the first Sony A7IV I’ve been able to properly use. I notice after a short while a small scuff and then upon a closer inspection more signs of use, including wear on the bottom and some dust and debris collected in the eye cup. I then check the shutter count on my first test photo which shows that it is just under twelve-hundred. To be clear this would maybe be an E or E+ if it was listed as used. It was however a new purchase, so I was disappointed to start with. The Sigma lens though was in great condition however. I was shipped either another person’s return without proper inspection as a new device or was shipped something from the used department. Either way, something that should never have happened. 1st major mess up. I call, am told that they can’t do anything over the phone and I’ll need to collect a bunch of photos and email it to support since I’m saying the device is used. I do that and do not hear back until the next day telling me to ship it back. Frustrating but expected. Tuesday after work I ship it back and also do my best to express that I was counting on having the camera for the weekend, which is getting a bit down to the wire. Blair from the customer support team emails me to say they are processing an advanced replacement and they will let me know when it’s processed. First time I felt relief in the process and was feeling less stressed. If this was where things ended this would be a 4 or even 5 star review. “They messed up but made it right.” Come Thursday, I still haven’t heard anything. I call after work, get through to customer support and they try to find out what’s going on. Looks like the department has stopped taking calls a few minutes early, they’ll get back to me tomorrow. Friday by noon CST I still have not heard back so I call again. Talk with a kind lady named George, same thing, not sure what going on, will contact the other department. Two thing I learn: 1: Advance replacement was never processed let alone shipped so there is no chance I’m going to get the camera also it’s much too late even find a camera to rent 2: the returns department decided to take my camera as a return instead of as an exchange. Which messes with one of the two promotions I went with Adorama for in the first place. So George tried to put in a new order for me, turns out we can’t because the money hasn’t been refunded yet. So where we are currently at: Don’t have my old or my new camera for this weekend when I needed it why I’m posting during the weekend, likely lost the 24 month financing, they said I’d still get the Sony trade in discount like that’s doing me a favor it runs until the end of the month so of course I will and a huge waste of my time and money dealing with this, and no clue when this will be resolved. Hugely disappointing.
I purchased a "new" camera from Adorama and unfortunately they sent me a previously opened box. I promptly returned the camera and requested an unopened box "new" replacement. Adorama was unable to promptly delivery a replacement camera so I requested a refund. They initially gave me store credit not what I requested. Finally after multiple calls and emails to customer support they credited my credit card. They withheld ~$29.00 without explanation. I will never purchase from Adorama again. I would advise the same to anybody considering a purchase.
The "new" 16TB HDD I ordered for a client arrived, but was opened already. The security seal was broken, the HDD was dirty and had finger prints all over it, and the plastic packaging was open. Against my better judgement I tried to use it anyway. Unsurprisingly the drive was dead. Not recognized in Disk MGMT or on a Linux system in case of EXT4. The drive lightly beeps every few seconds and never shows up. Filed a refund request with Adorama, and now I have to wait however many days for it to arrive back there for inspection in order to receive a refund. Now I am going to be late on the project and not able to deliver on time as I always do. I ordered a replacement drive from a different company and the three other external drives I will need are going to be ordered elsewhere also.
- DO NOT BUY ONLINE. Unreliable inventory. Website said the product is there but it wasn’t, instead shipping something else that I didn’t purchase. - Bought an $800+ piano and was shipped a much cheaper model. - Emailed and called customer service who inferred it was my fault, telling me to ship back the cheaper model without initially giving me a shipping label and with no guarantee of the product I actually purchased being shipped. - After multiple emails and over an hour of phone conversations, NOTHING was done for the mistake to get me the piano I ordered. I was not allowed to talk to a supervisor. No ownership of the mistake. Especially terrible customer service. - Even a week after they didn’t have the product in stock, the website still said it was in stock which was untrue. - Will never use Adorama again
I have been an Adorama customer for years and have had no problems. I recently moved from Oregon to the Hudson Valley of New York and since then every single order I have placed with them online has gotten hung up with their fraud department. As a professional photographer the delays in even getting my order processed have cost me days of lost work and $. I will just start shopping at B&H from here on out.
Do not purchase from this company. They've been holding my equipment hostage for 3 months now. Over 20 phone calls and emails later I'm still receiving the same response back. The only option is for them to contact their warehouse which over the past 3 months they have not been able to get ahold of once. They will not send replacements, they will not offer refunds. The ONLY option is to wait to hear back from their warehouse who they haven't heard from in 3 months. They got upset with ME that I have called so many times trying to get my equipment that they have threatened to THROW AWAY my equipment.
This is a very dishonest company. I went to trade used camera equipment Nikon D850 and several DSLR lenses for a new Nikon Z9. What the company shipped me was a used/gray market/refurbished Z9. Adorama was very sneaky - the camera came in a Nikon box but what tipped me off was that the camera did not have a Nikon warranty card and viewing screen on the back of the camera was not covered in a protective film which Nikon includes at its factory. When I asked Adorama for the warranty card they finally admitted the camera was a used/gray market/refurbished camera. I was told I could return the camera for a refund. That proved not to be true. I returned the camera but have not recieved a refund or my old camera equipment back despite several emails and calls to Adorama. Adorama used to be a good company. That is no longer the case. I would urge other consumers to shop elsewhere.
Writing this review just to say I had a pretty good experience ordering online. I ordered a used camera and used lens with next day air shipping on a Thursday, and the camera made it to me on a Friday, and the lens made it to me the following Monday. I will say I think it's strange the lens took an extra day to actually leave the store. If used items are kept in the physical retail store, then you'd expect they'd be able to ship both items at the same time. Additionally, the lens was well wrapped with plastic and bubble wrap, the camera could have used a lot more protection in the packaging. As much money as you're spending, you'd like the items to be well protected. Fortunately, the items came unscathed in great condition. My items were rated E- minus using their rating system, which I believe is an 8/10. I didn't notice any scratches or scuffs on the lens, and only scratches on the bottom of the camera, which I would have expected. So items came exactly as described on the website. Overall, I would recommend shopping with them, and I will consider purchasing from them again. Positives: + Great Customer Service when I reached out about the status of the shipment of the lens +Items came in great condition, as well as described on the website Negatives: -Camera could have been better protected in the packaging. The camera Box was a little damaged, and surprised it wasn't more so. -Purchased next day air shipping, and lens took an extra day to ship, and was not shipped at the same time as the camera.
I had an absolutely awful experience with Adorama, I have used KEH, B&H and others many times with zero problems. Audorama promised the best trade in value over the phone and even gave a quote I was happy with. My equipment arrived and was in perfect shape just like I described. The Adorama agent informed me that the manufacturer might have a sale and now the offer will be lower, all this in just 4 days after my phone quote.
