Adventist Health Howard Memorial Hospital

Description

Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital is a rural 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Willits, California, a northern Mendocino County community known as "gateway to the redwoods."HistoryIn the early 1920s, the community of Willits realized the need for a community hospital and in 1925, the Willits Development Association sponsored the first Frontier Days, as a benefit to begin construction of a hospital. In 1926, Charles S. Howard became interested in building a hospital in memory of his son who had died in an auto accident. With further convincing from several local citizens, the Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH), named after Charles' son, came into existence.Groundbreaking ceremonies were held and construction began in 1927. The next year, the original hospital building was completed with the board of directors consisting of the Howard family. Several years later, in 1946, the south wing was constructed adding two three-bed wards and three semi-private rooms, making HMH a 20-bed hospital.Throughout the next several years, HMH continued to enlarge and 1955 was the busiest year for construction in the hospital's history. During that year, a new surgical wing was built, adding two operating rooms; Central Oxygen Quarters, Sterile Central Supply, and areas for physician and nurse lounges were added; and the kitchen and laundry were enlarged. The X-ray department was renovated in 1960. In the midst of building, HMH received its first accreditation by the Joint Commissions on Accreditation of Hospitals. In 1970, a new patient wing was completed, making HMH a 42-bed facility and adding a Critical Care unit, nursery and emergency room. A pathology and laboratory department was completed in 1973 and the Smalley Medical Center was built in 1977.

Fast and friendly service from beginning to the end. All 4 of the hospital staff gets 5 star rating that I encountered at this visit. The x-ray tech, gets 5+ stars, for above reasons and for making me feel comfortable , while being professional and friendly all at the same time.
The pre-op, post-op, and second floor nurses were excellent. Their care was always exceptional. They took very good care of us during my husband's stay. We both appreciated their professionalism, their kindness, and the respect and 'human-ness' they showed us.
Been numerous times since I have a thrombophlebitis disorder that caused my liver to go. I had to go 5 times before they called UCSF because I was dying. They knew over the phone I had a blood clot in my portal vein . Got transferred immediately to UCSF for surgery. I’m always nervous about why er dr I will get. Most don’t look at my chart assume I ruined my liver myself and treat me bad. 6 years in I’m suffering and waiting for a B- liver and having gastrointestinal issues now. Bezoars, internal bleeding, acsities ect. I’ve come liver stable before and left liver unstable after stay. One female dr they have upstairs is not up to standards. Also, don’t get me started on terrible I’ve skills.surgeon, and team are great and caring. Couple er nurses are good rest need more training. Dr. Glyer is a gem.
Howard Memorial has all private rooms, great care, and fantastic food!! I can’t say enough about the nursing care, including PT! Good post op pain management as well! I can’t think of any negatives!!
It took 2 days to get registered because I had an incomplete order, but staff were very explicit about what was needed, allowing me to get the matter resolved. I always enjoy my encounters with AHHH hospital staff!
I felt like I had family all around me in the emergency room, they were fantastic! They explained what they were doing and they all answered my questions. I highly recommend this team!
I love this hospital. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I had to get an x-ray of my hips and they were professional and kind.
Took my bro in law in 12-27-22 ER. They were fast efficient and communicated very well. DR JOHNSTON AND NURSE LINDA. I was updated during the one we were there.
The doctors were kind and friendly it was a really good experience and they helped me a lot.
I had out-patient surgery on 07/19/22 six days ago. I want to thank Dr. Lance Ludington, his office manager, Ruby, and the entire surgical team, pre-op thru recovery, for the great care they give. "My" team Monday morning crew ? consisted of Susan, Rebekkah, Jodie, Jacqueline and Daniel. They all are really great care givers.
