I earned my DDS in 1971 from the University of California, San Francisco and continued post-graduate training at the Harvard Forsyth Training Center for Clinical Scholars in Oral Biology. I received my D.M.Sc. degree (Doctor of Medical Sciences) in 1975 it is a degree accomplished through the Harvard school of dental medicine under the auspress of the Faculty of Medicine. I was awarded my Certification in Periodontology from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in the same year. I am a former Assistant Professor of Periodontics (1971-1973) and Clinical Professor (special assistant to the Dean 1994) at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry.
I began performing dental implants in 1979 after a year-long program offered at the University of Southern California. I have successfully placed thousands of implants since then. In 1986 I co-founded--with several other prominent implantologists--the Southern California Dental Implant Study Club. I was also a member of the Loma Linda University Dental Implant Study Club from 1985 to 1993.
My memberships include the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Academy of Periodontology, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Between 1982 and 1987 I was a member of the Board of Directors and legislative Chairman of my local dental society.
More recently I have explored ways to make dental implant care accessible and affordable to the general public, not just those able to pay top dollar. In my spare time i am an avocado farmer. I am a member of the San Diego farm bureau and California Avocado Commission.
