Organized on May 17, 1998, the Society's goal was to acquire a safe and permanent place, accessible to all, where resources on African & African American histories & cultures, as well as those of the African Diaspora could be collected and displayed.

The African / African American Historical Society & Museum of Allen County (AAAHSM, pronounced "Awesome") is a nonprofit organization formed to preserve African & African American histories and cultures through collections and programs that promote scholarly research and public use.
