We use only Copper, Brass, Stainless so they will never rust. We color w/ Acid Patinas, then airbrush & double-coat each piece before oven-baking.
The Process:
Every piece is individually handcrafted. Since this is the case, no two are exactly alike! We are skilled craftsmen and are dedicated to creating the most durable and detailed work possible. Since no two pieces are alike each piece will look a little different than the item pictured on Facebook, however satisfaction is guaranteed. If the piece you order is not in stock we will make you a recreation of the highest quality and with the color scheme of your choice.
Every piece that we make begins as a copper sheet, tubing, or wire; all in a variety of thicknesses, along with some stainless steel and brass elements.
We cut the desired shape out of the copper sheet, grind the edges, then hammer the piece to fit our needs.
In the hammering process we use many different techniques and tools. Not only does hammering the copper give it a beautiful look, it also strengthens the copper. Keep in mind these pieces look fragile however they are well designed and very sturdy.
Next we use the appropriate welding techniques, depending on the metal we are working with, to assemble the necessary pieces. Also, when done with precision, this process will help strengthen the sculpture.
After all has been assembled, the welds have been checked and re-checked, we take the sculpture to the paint booth. In the paint booth, we clean any surfaces that need priming and we apply a variety of acid patinas. We airbrush on automotive lacquers, and apply a double wet-coat of Polyurethane as the finishing touch. After we bake each piece in the oven the "Poly" cures and now protects your piece from further oxidation and preserves the finishes we have applied, ensuring your piece will last a lifetime.
When it comes down to care for your sculpture, all you need to do is wipe off dust from time to time with a soft damp cloth! We recommend you bring in the pieces during the winter due to expansion of water, however, we do test the limits of these pieces and they pass with flying colors! Quality and durability do not take a backseat to beauty, so it is a good thing we have figured out methods of combining all of these into our sculptures.
