Expedia screwed us and Alamo came in and saved the day. We got into an excellent car at the last minute and unfortunately I don't remember her name, was a life saver and even got us a free upgrade to a bigger car because of the massive headache we had just been through and she knew we were picking up another person still. She was a lifesaver. Then our return was handled by Ryan juergens at the Cedar Rapids counter and he was struggling to find the reservation and he pulled out every stop and tenaciously tackled the problem until it was resolved and we were done with our transaction We're probably booking with Alamo from now on.
They route their calls to a foreign call center. You will not be able to speak to a competent person. Refused any and all help or advice after my flight and original pick up time was delayed. Called Avis and they helped immediately. USE AVIS!!!!
Charged me 4x the quoted rate without a single coommunication. Picking up the car on Aug 19 flying in and drop it off Aug 20 morning to FBO per instruction. Later saw the bill and I got charged 4x the quoted rate that I booked it for. Absolutely horrible experience, got routed to some oversea call center and wasted all the time squaring this out.
Reservation paid for and insurance paid for. Went to Cedar Rapids airport to pick up car and Hertz employee told me Alamo was at Enterprise section. I go to enterprise section to get the car and he said we are all out..... all out? yah we don't have any cars, we are all out. Wouldn't give me my money back, offer any help or suggestions. That was it.... Still trying to get my money back 2 days later for a car I never received... ROBBERY!! DO NOT GO TO ALAMO OR ENTERPRISE... THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM TAKING YOUR MONEY AND GIVING YOU NOTHING. ALSO THEY ARE ONLY GETTING A 1 STAR BC I COULDN'T POST THIS IF I DIDN'T PICK IT. BUT I GIVE THEM NO STARS. NO STARS. SO JUST TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT GIVING THEM ANY STARS NOT EVEN 1.
In my experience, very few places can operate after confirming a reservation, both in email and over the phone, the day before and morning of only to tell you they don’t have anything for you when you get there.
Requirements different for local renters vs those flying into airport. Be prepared
My flight was delayed and we would miss our connecting flight, we got a different flight pattern that got us to Cedar Rapids later than originally planned. I called three different times and talked to three different people to ask if we would be able to pick up our rental car after our flight landed. All three said yes even with our flight landing after closing time. When we did get to Cedar Rapids, there was no one there to help us get our rental car. Both my fiancée and I were stranded at the airport for about two hours waiting for my parents, who had to work at 5am the next day, to come get us. We did not get to their house until 3 am. If they say “yes you can get your rental car after 10pm because your flight delayed” do not believe them. They will cancel your reservation at 10pm. Nothing was done when I called and there isn’t anything more that I can do. Worst experience 0/10.
Billing issue. I was charged 3 separate times for a rental and called twice to resolve the charges. I was sent an invoice showing a refund was being issued, but never received the refund. When I turned the vehicle to the Cedar Rapids airport, the guy at the counter was too lazy to get up and check mileage, inspect the vehicle, and wouldn’t provide an updated invoice showing the vehicle was returned and received. I wouldn’t recommend Alamo.
Here's how it happened for us, in detail. Did our online search for coupons, promos and discounts over a week and Alamo came the cheapest, as always. We needed the car for 6 days so we rented for one week since weekly rental is cheaper. We were doing long distance travel so we went for an economy car since its high MPG makes the trip significantly cheaper. They day of pickup I Was running late so I called the branch and kindly asked them to wait for me for 5 minutes after the closing hour on a Saturday night and they did. I arrived on time 5 minutes late and the agent cheered me without any concern about me being late. However, they did not have an economy car leaving me with two choices: take a minivan or a pickup truck for the same price or upgrade for a premium with extra $10/day. Quick calculation: $70 extra for premium car or pay ~$70 as extra gas... went for the premium for sure. But when changing my reservation, the agent said that it was actually $15/day extra, so another $35 for me + tax, which I took but this time with being little unhappy, because not having the economy car is Alamo's fault and the upgrade should rather be FREE. Anyway, the car itself was brand new, it did an avg MPG of 32, and our trip was enjoyable. Thanks Alamo.
I'm an Alamo "insider" member because I know I can always expect a great car at a great price, but there are a couple little things I experienced in my last trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa that could be improved. 1 There was no Alamo labeled booth inside the airport - not even a sign in another booth. I had to ask in a competitors booth to learn that Alamo was handled by the guy in the Enterprise booth. 2 There was no person at the car return area to check in the car. There was no instructions on signage nor from the check-in attendant nor the paperwork I was given, so I left the keys on the dash. When I walked by the booth on my way to boarding the attendant told me I must bring the keys back to him, so I had to go back to get them.
