Two dogs showed up at my daughter’s house, got in the yard started chewing on the outside chair. She called for help from animal control at 8:55am. She had to call again at 10:30. The manager wanted her to bring the dogs to him or if she thinks she knows who they belong to then get ahold of the owners. First of all that’s not her job and in this day and age you have no idea what kind of people you’re talking to.? Why are There a lot of dogs running around in Alamogordo? People can’t walk their dogs or children for fear of some stray dog coming toward them. Maybe the authorities should go after owners and hold them accountable. Several accidents waiting to happen. This animal control is a joke. Totally worthless. Sad! Very sad
The Manager is very hard to work with and will make up rules so he doesn't have extra work the next day. Doesn't matter if it's over saving a dog. I was extremely disappointed with my last encounter.
I wish I could give them a good rating, but whoever the supervisor is could not be any more rude or defensive. I adopted a dog THREE days ago and I have to take him to the vet tomorrow morning due to two severe ear infections. There is dried blood in his ears and he shakes his head, whimpers, and scratches at them everyday since I’ve had him. I tried to take him yesterday to just get them cleaned in case that’s all the issue was and the groomer didn’t even want to touch them in fear of hurting him further. When I called and asked if there was any sort of program that they offer to help with unexpected vet expenses from their dogs that were adopted the same week an issue arises, the “supervisor” really had the gall to argue with me and act like I didn’t read all of the paperwork. He told me that due to the dogs unknown background it can’t be determined to be their fault, but it’s August and they have had him since February? I made sure to ask that on the day of adoption. That’s not the dogs background, sir, that’s you thinking your staff is cleaning the animals ears when they are clearly not. My dog is a shar-pei mix and has short ears which, if they knew anything about animals, need to be cleaned very regularly due to the accessibility of dirt and bacteria getting in there. I don’t want to say do not adopt an animal from here, as my dog is so sweet and loving and I’m so glad to have freed him from that hell, but make SURE you do a full health inspection before you leave with your pet. Bring it up to them face to face so they cannot screw you and your new baby over like they did to us. I will be taking my poor guy into the vet tomorrow, when I’m 36 weeks pregnant and don’t have the extra money to spend. Terrible service, I feel so sorry for the animals that end up here. Something needs to be changed.
Today, my friend and I saw a horse that was most certainly not in a safe place. She had gotten loose. Being from ranching and farming, I saw this sweet horse was docile, but not well taken care of. I knew there was no way this horse should be loose next to a railroad track and a place where people have a tendency to just race down the road. We stayed with the horse even though we had our own dogs, a Mastiff, Labrador and a sassy terrier in our vehicle. She was calm. Used to horses. I knew to be gentle and approach her in the right way. She stayed calm. The two young officers were so kind and sweet. The story gets funnier, but all in all...I love the spirit, sweetness and goodness of these very kind officers! Gotta love the spirit of those dedicated to making the world better!
Literally the worst animal control by far! I had an aggressive dog that essentially blocked me from getting into my own home. I called them to assist me because I didn’t feel safe at the time when called I had no idea where the dog went and they refused to send anyone out because it’s too late. I’m sorry your time has more value than my safety!
Apparently they don't come out for wild animals. There was a fox in my yard, that had killed my duck, and it wasn't running from me. I called because I thought it could rabid. They did not call to say they would not be able to come out and help. Instead when the fox came back I called again and was THEN informed that they "don't deal with wild animals". I just wanted help, very disappointed in the lack of service. I hope it wasn't rabid
These people at animal control could not be any ruder on the telephone. I spoke to an unreasonably angry woman named Laura who was absolutely no help at all. It just seems strange that this woman Laura can give you the worst customer service in Alamogordo, but when you bring that to her attention she tries to make you feel like its your fault. If Laura treats people that way I'm really scared to think about how they treat the poor animals that are there under their supervision.
I would have to say the last time my dog was here! She was covered in blood and poop! Wish more care came. She was there because she heard another dog screaming. She is a momma dog. I was crying seeing how bad she looked! Specially wing my emotional support Pit!
I have adopted all my animals here and the customer service is great. They come pick up animals throughout the city and the officers are nice and professional. One problem. They have drop off kennels outside their building that spend about 80% of the day in the sun. Literally the metal boxes spend all day in the New Mexico sun get so hot that I can't even hold the latch long enough to actually open it!!!! This is where they expect people to drop animals off. No. They go out and collect abused animals from the public for treating animals like that and they can leave the dogs in those boxes in the summer for a whole day. Wrong. This is a problem that needs to be fixed.
Went to get my dogs licensed. They do a very good job taking care of strays and abandoned animals. Donate to the cause! I did, you can too
