Yesterday was my first experience at this Pizzeria and it was fantastic! I walked in and was greeting politely. I got the Baked Ziti pizza and the staff were really excited about it. One really awesome worker handed it to me and asked me to check it out before I left. I opened it and it looked amazing and we struck up a great conversation! They love their food and when I got home, I loved it too! The dough was one of the best I have ever had and the sauce/cheese was incredible. Overall an excellent pizza for my taste and I cannot wait to try more pastas/sauces! Glad I woke nearby because I know I’ll be here during lunch many times!
Alfonso's Pizzeria is located along the busy Park Avenue. There is street parking and a municipal lot very close by. The inside of the restaurant is clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly and inviting. I decided to go with a Margherita and a Brooklyn square. The square featured good cheese with a delicious sauce and a nice, fluffy base. The Margarita had a slightly thicker base that is crisp on the bottom, but fluffy throughout. It also had a great sauce and good quality mozzarella cheese. The crust was crispy-crunchy. Good pizza, I was very satisfied.
My wife and I take my daughters there because they love the pizza. I'm not crazy about it, so I order the pasta and that is what's good there. I love the atmosphere and the staff is quite nice. Update: I recently had pizza from Alfonso's and found it to be outstanding. I hope it remains that way.
Pizza is great. Better than many other local spots. They've been in the town for decades, ate this as a kid, continue to as an adult, and it's worth it to stop in. Reasonably priced too not crazy like some places for a slice. It's different, it's a little thinner and wider but the cheese and crust is a little sweet, very good. Try it!
I enjoy going to Alfonso's Pizzeria because they have very good food that our whole family enjoys. Angelo at Alfonso's always has Gluten Free pizza available for my son. We go there every Friday night and love the food. We like the variety of pizza toppings available there. Our favorites are Margarita, Hawaiian and meatball pizzas. Overall, it is our favorite local pizza place.
we went into the establishment expecting to just simply enjoy the food and the cool air but the man working in the front already seemed as if he was unwilling to serve. Despite his unwillingness to offer the pizzeria services we attempted to order. The man in the front took one order and and another order was a full pie. When confronted about the deal on the full pie the worker told us 10 for cash and if not it's 15 his exact words where "it says it on the front" when he was told it didn't say it on the front he went to check with the other customers he came back in as if he was a bit riled up and said that "it says it right here" pointing toward the non visible side of the counter, then asked a customer who was already eating at the establishment if it says what he said previously, already eating a full pie himself probably more than satisfied with whatever service he was given the already eating customer agreed. The worker then proceeded to say if we didn't want the pizza he didn't need our patronage. Disgusted with his demeanor we left the establishment.
My grandfather and I stopped here for a bite to eat before his brothers funeral at Rossi Funeral home, right down the street. Alfonso's pizza was delicious. It's an art to make great pizza, finding the proper combination of water, dough, cheese, and sauce is a bit more involved than your average lay man thinks. They have definitely hit the mark with their recipe. I highly recommend this pizza place if you happen to be in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Angelo is a wonderful guy, I've known him since I was a teenage kid and his dad team the pizzeria. We got slices and played Zaxxon in the old shop. He moved down Park Ave. and makes some of the best pizza in New Jersey. Highly recommend....
Place has very dated seating which is uncomfortable to hang out with friends in the pizza section of the establishment. Also not many pizza selections for walk-in service in the case, ready to heat & go However, the Sicilian slice is pretty darn good!
Classic neighborhood Italian eatery. Home style Italian basics, done much better than you'd expect from a pizzeria...and, the pizza's pretty darned good too! The owners treat diners like guests in their home...they remember you, even if you were only there once before, and offer something rather old-fashioned: authentic hospitality.
