We were close by at Smithville and looked up this little gem and so glad we went. Food was excellent. Service was amazing. We only went with sharable plates for the first visit. See pics. But order anything and I believe it will be excellent based on what we ate. Enjoy!
I've driven by so many times but never stopped. Today I visited and was extremely satisfied with my decision. The Honey Garlic Salmon was perfectly cooked.Food: 5/5
Very nice presentation but $42 for this plate was definitely not worth it!! The prices were absurd with the amount of seafood you received. Not going back.
Been going to Allen's with my entire family for 53 years now, wow has this place changed for the worst. Less food, prices through the roof, we were talked down to on the phone by whomever answered it one evening for a takeout order also. The place itself has changed! If it's not broke don't fix it, we won't go back any more nor will my family! Hard to say goodbye to something you love but I have way better things to do with my money and better places to take it to
My mother and I ate lunch at Allen's at least 4 times a summer for about 15 years. She loved the small plates that they used serve - it was smaller portions of fried scallops, fries, coleslaw, and a roll. There was oyster crackers on the table, and regular crackers. At one point they could no longer get the hard oyster crackers as the company went out of business. Anyway, they did away with the small plates that she liked so we stopped going there. I convinced her yesterday to go there for lunch again, told her she could take her leftovers home. We both ordered the fried shrimp and scallop combo platter. They came out very dark, not like something that someone took some time cooking. The scallops were perfectly done but the breading was way too dark. The shrimp tasted as if they had been cooked previously and then dumped back in the fryer. The tartar sauce was not as good either. No more rolls! We were both very disappointed in the food. They are putting a bar in the restaurant. In my opinion they are moving too far from their roots. I won't be dining here again. Thank you for the fine meals I had all of those years.
Have driven past many times, finally made it and was not disappointed. Great local, seasonal place. Excellent Manhattan clam chowder & lobster bisque. One suggestion, next time will order the seafood salad without the mayo based dressing. Although light, some balsamic or oil & vinegar on the side would be preferable. A bit pricey, especially for BYOB changing soon but seafood so fresh thought it might jump off the plate. Parking: Sufficient
I am sad to say after 40 years of coming here I probably won't be coming back. It is changed dramatically, I feel if something's not broken then don't fix it. They have decided to get a liquor license and add a bar. They have updated everything inside. It's just not the same old Allen's Once upon a time that everybody loved. The menu has changed not Once, but twice within the last couple months since they reopened, prices have Skyrocketed. I know they have with everything but if I was getting the same amount of food that I always got I might not be as upset but I feel I'm getting half of what I used to get for a whole lot more money. For 2 of us for the same thing we always got with 2 sodas. Cost me $75 for dinner tonight plus tip. Makes me so sad. I will say the seafood was extremely good. Had a lot of flavor it's just. I'm very disappointed how much they've changed.
The waitress saw there was something not quite right and corrected it before anything was said. That's top notch. Food was great. Service was perfect, even with every chair full in the place.Food: 5/5
We got there and sat down, received our menus I went to the restroom then my girlfriend went to the restroom and we sat there for a while for someone to take our drink and food order. There were only two other tables then ours at the time, and a couple of waitresses working they both kept looking at our table but nobody came over. Finally a waitress yelled to another waitress about the table while serving another table that came at the same time we did. She came over after about a ten minute wait and took our order, and the food was great. Our second time at this restaurant and the food was great.
We stopped in for dinner tonight family of5. The hostess, Karen, & our waitress, Erica, were SO friendly, attentive, & caring! It was our first time there & we loved it! The food was unbelievable!!! Seriously, the best lobster roll I’ve ever had! I had an urgent call that I had to take just after our entrees came out. I stepped outside to take the call & when I came back in I found out that the waitress & hostess felt so badly that my food was getting cold, that they covered it in foil for me. I really appreciated that! So sweet of them! The food really was amazing & we can’t wait to go back! Also, it’s very clean in there & decorated really cute!
