Situated on 30 beautiful acres, Alpine Cemetery is one of the oldest non-denominational cemeteries in central New Jersey.
Incorporated in 1862, Alpine Cemetery Association was designed by William Sanders, renowned for his work on the Washington and Gettysburg national cemeteries. The 30-acre Alpine Cemetery was originally founded to memorialize Civil War veterans, and as such, it has a specially designated area for those who died in those battles. This historic site permits the use of both memorials and monuments on its grounds.
To better serve the residents of the Perth Amboy community, Alpine, CMS Mid-Atlantic, Inc. has added aboveground and underground mausoleum programs. The Cemetery also has a special section dedicated to fallen firefighters.
A core staff of five services approximately 100 annual burials, with more than 21,000 people interred in this cemetery. A maintenance and preservation fund established in the 1920s ensures ongoing and appropriate upkeep of the cemetery property and its facilities. The serenity of this property combines many gardens with traditional monument sections. Composed mainly of very gentle sloping hills, the Cemetery’s beauty is enhanced by numerous hardwood trees indigenous to this part of New Jersey.
Located on the outskirts of the northern end of town, Alpine Cemetery is approximately 15 minutes from New York City, with easy access to all major highways. The neatly landscaped property, with its trees and ponds, offers a quiet place for reflection and prayer while being just outside the activity of a large city.
