4 beautiful campsites. No fees. 1 has a very small stream behind it. Campsites are very close together. Each has a picnic table and fire ring. There is a vault toilet and garbage bins. We have Verizon and had at least 2 bars. Park Ranger was very pleasant and informative. Would stay again. Restrooms: Clean vault toilet and trash bins Dog-friendliness: Dogs are ok, however, not allowed to be tied to trees. Picnic area: 4 sites are available, and each has a picnic table and fire ring
I was solo camping so wasn't totally sure about this spot. When I pulled in I was immediately relieved as there were two quiet looking camps and two empty sites. I took the first one on the right by the river. Just a great spot, but there is a bear problem of sorts. The first night there was one on the other side of the road and I helped the other campers chase him off. Later a smaller one was just outside of my tent. They both came back the next night and they are totally uninterested in people and don't care much if you make noise! Very exciting, a little scary, but a memory that will last forever.
We had a great time here. The outhouse was really nice. And there is a small creek close to the campground and a bear proof trashcan.
We thoroughly enjoyed camping at this little hidden campground. I usually hike in to camp but this was a nice change. We were able to park right on site and a pit toilet bathroom was near by. There is a nice creek and a few trails to enjoy along with a fire pit lantern post and picnic table at each site. I would definitely recommend this one.
Dec 2022. This is a small remote campground on Bullpen road. Has a unmarked trail head that intersects with Elliot Rock trail and Glade trail. Lot of blow downs on the trails. Looks like tweekers have been living at the Ammons campground. The few road side camp spots before Ammons had tweekers as well. You can tell by the mountains of trash, 30 blue tarps and piles of beer cans. Otherwise. Beautiful area and campground. Bring a trash bag and do your part!
Not a bad place with a composting privy and a bear dumpster. About 6 campsites are available but the only water source is a small stream located about 100' downhill of the privy. I brought in water.
Ammons is beautiful place to car camp. It has a sign to mark it at the entrance. It has an outhouse hole of poop style toilets and bear proof trash cans. There 4 sights somewhat close ish together. The river water is clean.
It was perfect until we heard someone in the woods after dark making weird noises sounded like someone yelling. Just want people to be aware before they have to experience what we did.
I loved it. Off the highway. Be smart and carry water.
Pretty secluded which is it's best feature. Not a bad spot to stay but I did find nicer spots nearby along forest roads
