This was my first train experience. I’ll start out by saying my train was delayed 4 hours. That I get has nothing to do with the station HOWEVER it was very hard to understand what was being said. We were in Grand Hall and everything just echoed. I relied on bits and pieces of information from others. There is not much information posted around about train status. It’s not like the airport where there’s digital screens with update information everywhere. Which meant we had to keep checking our phones which was okay TILL 1 hour turned into 2 then 3 then 4. By this time my phone was dead started at 75 so I grabbed my charger but couldn’t not find an outlet. I was told we could use a kiosk to rent charging time but I declined. Maybe it’s my fault for expecting a better experience seeing as I’ve never ridden a train but overall I give it a 3 . I’ll prob just stick to flying. Side note: like most places some of the staff was really nice and some were just rude.
On Saturday, we celebrated my nephew's 3rd birthday on train 20 from NOLA to Slidell. I have to admit; I dreaded the thought. When our train was called to board, we met Mr. Philip. He had a smile on his face that made our day. He had an excitement and a smile and suck a positive spirit, it took our experience to the next level. I pray he is recognized, appreciated, and advanced by Amtrak for his dedication to his customers.
Open, mostly clean train terminal. Food options are present, but limited. The bathrooms were pretty clean and in good condition. There were plenty of seats and the waiting room was open and airy. Staff were efficient and professional. There were some...odd murals around the walls too, so you had something to ponder while waiting. So overall nothing fancy but a decent place to wait for a train.
Amtrak attendant Brandon was very helpful when I needed to add my bike to my trip on the sunset limited. Station is clean but pretty sparse. There is a good YouTube video about riding the Sunset
I went here to pick up a family member and the first thing I noticed was that this area is very sketchy. I parked at the nearby parking lot and could only hope for the best while I was inside. The terminal is pretty decent, with a Subway, gift shop, ATM, vending machines and plenty of seating. You should have everything you need if you have a long wait. There were plenty of staff walking around and they all seemed to be very helpful to those who were waiting. If you’re arriving, there are plenty of taxis outside of the main entrance.
The attendants were very helpful, as my family had a delay on getting to the train and arrived slightly past check luggage time we were politely given a cart to load and pushed through to an attendant that had the exact number of tags for bags to be checked. Thanks for the love Union.
Just got home from a cruise I'm going to visit my sister and I was decided to take the train from New Orleans to Memphis and it's a wonderful ride I'm very glad I did that and I took a picture of these beautiful posters and I have some scenery there was lots of leg room and the people with nice except for the grumpy old man in the food car but that's okay. It smelled nice and did I mention again there was lots of room
The process was very convenient, the lady at the front desk was very nice. Even though I had to wait from 8am to 1pm. Once getting off a cruise, but it was still ok. The bathrooms need some working on, but over all the station was clean. And I surely appreciate the charging station.
It's always nice to ride the train to New Orleans. It is always a wonderful experience.
Very clean with a lot of vending and seating. They're also a subway and a gift shop!
