The path that led to the creation of Ancient Grains Kitchen was one I never expected to travel. Five years ago it led me straight into the hurricane of breast cancer and a deluge of surgery and chemo. I had a mastectomy, went through five months of chemotherapy, bought a really cute wig to cover my bald head and literally learned how to dance through the storm (the Lindy Hop and Cha-Cha being my favorites!)
One drug I took to reduce the chance of cancer recurrence had a side effect of joint pain. I learned that gluten can be a cause of joint stiffness and pain so I wondered if a gluten free diet could help me. After several weeks off of gluten it was like magic!*
I was free of joint pain! I mentioned this to my doctor and after some testing it was determined that I had Celiac disease. What do you do when the path turns you into a celiac? I incorporated into my diet the healthful gluten free ancient grains that have been used for centuries. I also began looking for gluten free cookies and treats but found the offerings disappointing. So I thought why not create my own fabulous gluten free cookies and while I am at it, my own cookie company?

My mission at Ancient Grains Kitchen is to create treats everyone-gluten free or not-can enjoy. The fun I’ve had dreaming up new flavors and textures is only surpassed by the satisfaction I’ve experienced bringing my dreams to delicious fruition using wholesome, gluten free ingredients.
