Reactivate rail service between Andrews and Murphy, NC.
Since 7/18/1988, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has owned the tracks between Andrews, NC and Murphy, NC.
The section of track formerly known as Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern's Murphy Branch starts at Milepost 100.1 and ends at 114.2 for a total of 14.23 miles.
In 2015 a study was performed by the NCDOT to reactivate the line from Andrews to Murphy at a total project cost of $17.4 Million.
Majority of the tracks between Andrews and Murphy are in good to fair condition. 2 bridges need to be completely replaced while more bridges need minor repairs.
