Great place! Just saw Transformers and the sound quality was excellent! The theater was clean and the screen was nice and large! The seats weee soft and there was snacks that were not typical of most AMC and Regal theaters. Definitely a place to go if you don’t mind spending a little extra cash. Lots of dining and shopping here in the Mosaic District.
Cute theatre in the mosaic district. Website is not very good - hard to buy tickets since it never loads correctly and takes a long time to click through to actually purchase. Can buy tickets quickly at the kiosks in the theatre lobby and to avoid online convenience fees. You can pick your seats ahead of time, which is nice - don’t have to arrive super early to the theatre just to find a seat. Seats are comfortable, wide aisles so there’s lots of leg room and space between you and the person in front of you
I have enjoyed going to this theater for several years. More independent and foreign language films tend to be shown here which provide a welcome variety from what major chains show. Early viewing and matinee prices to be largely competitive with other theater brands. Self service kiosks function as expected without much trouble, although I do find having to purchase tickets one movie at a time when seeing more than one the same day just a bit inconvenient. I do like the lean staff model employed here, leaving people to attend to appreciated services like concessions and cleaning rather than menial ones such as selling and taking tickets. The location uses two floors for its eating and viewing areas with adjacent and nearby restaurants for pre- or post-meal meals plentiful. The sound in the various auditoriums delivers well. Seats tend to be softer and easy to lean back without fully reclining. The floors appear to have chipped paint in a number of locations from wear and overdue maintenance I suspect. Overall though a pleasing look and feel has been preserved over the years. I look forward to coming here in the future for those independent and foreign language films of interest to me and those like me.
What a fancy theater! Top Secret : I'm not sure if it's always like this, but they didn't check my backpack. I wish I had known, I would have packed it with snacks. But good to know for next time I go or not. The atmosphere is great, and it's perfect for families.
Friendly staff, clean theaters, clean bathrooms, relatively sleek and modern. If you join their free membership, tickets are half off on Tuesdays.
Note: I am only reviewing the cafe, and specifically their Angus Beef hot dog and value, not the theater. Craving an all-beef hot dog and having the flavor memory of Chicago Red Hots and the renowned Doug Sohn’s Hot Doug’s "Sausage Superstore and Encased Meat Emporium" product, I recognized I’m in a hot dog desert here in Northern Virginia. I noticed Angelika Theater Cafe in Mosaic has Angus Beef hot dogs on their menu. Sensing I was setting myself up for disappointment, a self-fulfilling prophecy, I just finished their Black Angus dog that came with a handful of potato chips, and I ordered a Great Lakes Amber Lager. Disappointed that chopped cold onions were not available, only grilled onions, I settled for a plain dog with yellow hot dog mustard only. Angelika, note that grilled onions are for burgers, and chopped cold onions are for hot dogs. The Angus Beef dog was pretty good, fairly flavorful, and served on an egg roll hot dog bun, but not to the "Wow" factor of a Chicago Red Hot or a Hot Doug’s dog. Adding to my dissatisfaction is that this mediocre experience was $20.00: $9.00 for the dog and chips, and $12.00 for the draft beer. Terrible value.
In most ways it's a nice theater, but the smell was very distracting. It looked clean, but smelled of old wet popcorn, old beer, wetness. Perhaps it's the seats because my clothes smelled afterwards. I hope they fix it. I've never been bothered by this at a theater before.
My experience yesterday afternoon at this theater was horrible. The person at the ticket kiosk was in extremely rude and condescending. Further he could not bring himself to look up from his cell phone phone, where it was obvious to see that he was scrolling social media. We went to the concession on the second floor where we waited in a very long line for a very long time. When we ordered a fountain drink we were told there was no ice available. I used the women’s bathroom before going into the theater. It was cluttered and dirty and I could not find a stall with any toilet paper. At a theater where the ticket prices are some of the highest in the DMV, it is clearly NOT a good value, nor a good experience. We will not be going back.
The staff is friendly, and the location is terrific, but the theaters are definitely old and outdated. The seats are uncomfortable, and the food/drink options are severely lacking -- it's disappointing because the theater has so much potential being located in the Mosaic and looking so cool from the outside.
The Angelika Film Center is an art-house film theater located in the Mosaic District in Fairfax. this theater only has 8 screens and specializes in independent films/ and the occasional big Hollywood Blockbuster. With an amazing selection of wine and beer on tap or bottle and a decent selection of food. The customer service is amazing and the atmosphere is quaint. consider also has an amazing Lounge on the third floor and will occasionally play classic films in the background. the location for the theater is perfect and provides an abundance of shopping and dining options around you. highly recommended.
