The school is named for the legendary Anna Kirchgater, a long time teacher of Elk Grove Grammar School. Miss Kirchgater also taught at the country schools of Michigan Bar, Victory, and Jackson. She was renowned for her strict discipline and her no nonsense expectations for all students. The school was built to ease the overcrowding in the Elk Grove elementary district due to the post World War II housing boom. As a brand new school in 1957, there were grandiose plans of housing what seemed like a huge enrollment of 300 students in the new school.
Anna Kirchgater Elementary provides a unique and innovative educational experience for all children, from the safety of the campus, to the warmth of the learning environment, to the rigor and depth of our instructional programs. We are committed to a tradition of excellence in providing students with the academic and social skills they need to be successful in school.
