CIA has wonderful restaurants and the Apple Pie Bakery Cafe offers delicious lunch and dessert options. My only suggestion is to have more of the choices available until actual closing time. We got there around two o’clock and some of the salads, wraps, and other choices were all gone. Would definitely say it’s a must see and have their delicious and tasty lunches and dinners! Visit The Egg too! We had breakfast and had a beautiful view of the Hudson River. We loved reading all of the clever banners along the campus’ streets. We will certainly be back! Loved it!
This place is the real deal! Anyone can dine here student or not and it is extremely fresh and high quality baked goods. Loved their apple cider donuts, hot cocoa, snickerdoodle, and one of the BEST grilled cheeses super unique with spice ham, pimento cheese, and beer braised onions.
I only had time to visit this restaurant on CIA's campus, but the sensational food here makes me want to return to sample other restaurants. Simply put...it was a fantastic meal. Due to COVID restrictions, the restaurant was offering a limited menu. One of the student workers noticed that we were having difficulty making a entrée choice and quickly gave us the lowdown on what was best on the menu, including the chicken pot pie and the mac and cheese. Both of those were delicious! I'm not a fan of chicken pot pie, but this was extraordinary. The crust was light and flaky and the pie's contents were cooked to perfection. The mac and cheese was excellent as well. After tasting those two entrees, I was a little sad that I didn't choose either of those and opted for the turkey sandwich. The sandwich was very good but due to the restrictions, it had become a little too cold in the refrigerator which made the bread a little chewy. I don't place any blame on the students or the restaurant however. It was a terrific experience and I enjoyed a pleasant lunch which is a little harder for me to accomplish nowadays. Almost forgot - do yourself a favor and save room for the tasty baked goods the students have prepared - you won't be disappointed. Will definitely return.
Please make sure to get their signature apple pie macaron. It is so delicious! It has apple pie filling in the center and the buttercream filling tastes just like apple pie. The other treats were just as good but the signature macaron is the clear winner. It was recommended to us by the student in The Bocuse and he was absolutely right!
The pastries and hot chocolate are delicious. Walked around the building to see the classrooms. The fountain out front and garden are beautiful.Recommended dishesBakery
I’ve been waiting to go here for years but it’s only open on weekdays and I’m usually only upstate weekends. It was worth the wait. We ordered around 7 lunch items and baked goods to try a little of everything and they were all great with amazing quality. It’s absolutely worth the visit the campus is beautiful plus it’s great to be around so many chefs passionate about their craft. CIA: Please consider opening on Saturdays :
Thank goodness I was only visiting the area! So much good food! Apple cider donuts, hot chocolate, a massive snickerdoodle cookie, a pastry with the best fruit filling, and for lunch, a grilled cheese with ham and beer-something-or-other onions. It was the BEST grilled cheese I have ever had, and I HATE ham and beer!
When we arrived at the CIA's Apple Pie Cafe APC there was a long line of people waiting to step up to the counter and make their lunch selections; the line, however, did move quickly. The food was delicious their tuna fish salad that day was better than my own and my dessert selection was divine. Unfortunately, my husband passed on dessert because the Apple Pie Cafe had no apple pie to purchase, which was disappointing for him. The negatives are that the dining area within the APC is too small for the swell of customers that arrive for lunch we felt lucky to get a table and the volume of conversation around us as we ate was too loud. The positives are that the APC is seemingly clean and managed well and the staff are eager to help and please in any way they can. Although we were glad to experience the APC we probably will not return because cafeteria style dining is not our preference. Parking: There is plenty of visitor parking at the CIA.
Edit: This was a 5 star review. But this is NY and it has come to my attention that they are engaging in bagel blasphemy. My wife went to purchase bagels there one morning. She asked for them toasted with cream cheese. She was told that all of the bagels are pre-toasted and all have cream cheese on them already. She asked if, and they clarified that, they are indeed cold, toasted bagels that have been sitting with cream cheese on them. They cannot be toasted again. I don't care if this is the CIA. This is New York. If you're going to sell bagels, do it right. Toast and top TO ORDER, YOU ABSOLUTE HEATHENS. Everything else? They're desserts from the CIA. The definition of tasty.
The food is excellent. I only went to the take out side to get a cake and some bread. The staff are all students except for the gentleman at the register. I'm sure the students are excellent chefs afterall this is the CIA, but their social interactions are sorely lacking. The man at the register is delightful and funny. I can, however, vouch for the bread and the blackout cake. Delicious!
