The Aquarium at Rockport Harbor, currently houses 22 tanks and over 100 different fish. All fish, except one, can be found in the Gulf of Mexico.
The mission of the Aquarium is to establish and maintain an Aquarium at Rockport Harbor that provides:
1) an educational and entertaining visitor experience that promotes understanding, conservation, and stewardship of marine resources and environments;
2) living exhibits focusing on local species; and
3) static and changing displays providing opportunities for the visitors of all ages to learn about research and management of coastal resources.
General-
The Aquarium is a non-profit Texas Corporation with volunteers for management, visitor docents, operation and maintenance. The efforts are managed by a Board of Directors with 11 committees responsible for all activities ranging from Executive Committee (providing day-to-day direct ion) to Volunteer Committee (all docent activities). These committees are defined in a Committee Policy and volunteers are always welcome. The Aquarium has one paid part-time contract employee, Operations Manager, who is responsible for all day-to-day operations. The Aquarium enjoys a long term relationship with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Coastal Fisheries Division that provides the building housing the Aquarium and continuously support maintenance and operation while providing technical support and overall guidance.
