Lewis Smith Lake (or Smith Lake) is located in North-Central Alabama about 20 miles northwest of Birmingham in state of Alabama (U.S.) counties of Cullman, Walker and Winston. The 300-foot high dam, completed in 1961 by Alabama Power Company, impounds the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River to form the lake. Smith Lake has a surface area of 21,200 acres, 500 miles of shoreline, a watershed area of 944 square miles, a retention time of 435 days, and a maximum depth of 264 feet. The western side of the lake's watershed is crowned by the 180,000-acre Bankhead National Forest, which blankets the deeply dissected southern edge of the Cumberland Plateau. The Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River, Alabama's only Wild and Scenic River, flows through the Bankhead National Forest. The Sipsey Wilderness, Land of a Thousand Waterfalls, lies within the Bankhead National Forest and is home to Alabama's largest tree, a tulip poplar with a 21-foot circumference at its base.

Hippie fest 2023 the owners are amazing! That's a great place to stay. Really had a good time
Very much enjoyed everything from the ramp to the store to the restaurant. I really only wanted to write a review to say that if you're "primitive camping" you don't expect a bathroom, lol. A couple reviews down.
My wife and i went primitive camping and fishing which now costed 22 dollars in the midle of the night she got up to use the restroom only to find it locked she tried again at about 9am later that morning and still locked wont go back and if i do definitely won't let her go and have to suffer, food is ok but way over priced . Shame we used to enjoy going there.
Ate at the restaurant. It was a to-go order. The food was very good. My son said it was the best burger in our area.
I had a double cheeseburger, plenty of burger next time I think I'll just order the single lol. Very good, fresh french fries. If you don't like really sweet, sweet tea I suggest getting half and half. The wait staff was really nice, the establishment was very clean. We will definately be back!
Great place. I lived there a year. Prices just went up to high for me to afford it on my own
Amazing property and we'll maintained facilities. One of the nicer campgrounds in the area.
It looked like your typical redneck hangout. Inside was pretty rundown. As far as the food goes, they had decent portions,& prices. The catfish was really good. Okra coleslaw & hush puppies not so great. Waitress was very friendly. Probably would only eat there if I was in the area.
Love this park and the people! Great price, right on the lake, has a bath house and laundry.... peaceful place to stay and relax
I like living there. It's quite. Friday night is the only night it might be a little loud cause of karaoke.
