My daughter and I were so delighted by Charm City Cakes. We got there a bit too early, but that gave us time to look around and find the buffalo! Hint: Read the signs! We took a beginner class my daughter is six for decorating unicorn cupcakes. I had never decorated with fondant before, so it was completely appropriate for both of us. Annamarie and Persi I'm sorry if I made mistakes on your names! were very pleasant and joyful. The fondant and tools were all conveniently available although the fondant colors were different than the picture shown. I highly recommend the class, and I thought the cupcakes themselves were quite tasty! If you're visiting the Inner Harbor, take a trip to Charm City cakes. It's worth it!
I dream of these cakes!!! I always make sure when I drive to Baltimore to stop by and grab jars of cake to go. Plenty of rotating flavors and options. I accidently placed my order to early and they had no issues changing my order for a later day. This staff is the friendliest bunch in Baltimore. I loved the lemon cake the best. Stop by to see their magnificent and decadent cakes.
Disappointing! Charm City Cakes was NOT charming. We bought cupcakes. Each cupcake was extremely dry and crumbly. The icing was not sweet, it was greasy and slick like shortening. Completely flavorless, nasty and inedible! The location itself is underwhelming. Definitely not what you'd expect from a Food Network Star's bakery. Does Duff even own this place? Everything was just so disappointing. All of it. We drove 4 hours to get these for my birthday weekend. Save your time and your money for someplace else. We couldn't eat any of these cupcakes, they really are that awful.
The cupcakes red velvet and chocolate espresso were really good but nothing special. Very light and creamy frosting. The cake itself was pretty standard. Each cupcake is $4; make of that what you will It’s pretty cool to just walk around and see the cake art though. Can’t comment on the classes.
The pictures speak for itself. We are dessert people, and being Food Network fans, we knew when we got engaged that we had to treat ourselves to Charm City Cakes. We designed a cake that was traditional and elegant on one side, but showed our personalities on the other. A tribute to Lady Gaga, with a Bride and Groom in the audience of a concert, and a lyric from our First Dance song. The cake deliverers were in and out so efficiently, and were the most professional vendor of any that we booked. For the 3 tiers we chose: Tandy largest layer, and crowd pleaser, Coffee Bride's Choice, and Banana Groom's choice, and each one was happily raved about among the target audience : Highly recommend.
Fans of art of fondant can find exactly the design of cake you’re looking for if money isn’t an option. Cake classes offer a fun way to spend an 1.5 hours of free time also. Cakes are layered with heavy fondant which makes for great decorations but lack the traditional taste. Try either the traditional style or fondant to see what’s right for you.
Ordered 6 cupcakes for delivery in Baltimore. They came perfectly packaged and beautiful with quick delivery. Like nearly everyone else, I watched the show many years back so I was excited to try the vanilla, cookies and cream and passion fruit cupcakes. This would really be 4.5 stars because I didn't love the frosting. It was creamy, not as sweet as you'd expect frosting to be and in some cases, almost a little flavorless. But the cake part was delicious in all three, sturdy but not dry, and sweet. I assume the frosting isn't as sweet because the cake is, which would make sense. I will order from here again, or may order a full cake some day soon.
I was obsessed with Ace of Cakes growing up so when stopping in Baltimore it was an obvious stop. We picked up some cake in a jar and it was delicious!!
Shop was ok but cupcakes were trash. Icing tasted like shortening basically sweet butter. It was disgusting. Could hardly taste whatever flavor of cupcake it was. Can't speak if cakes were good or bad. I can imagine they are similar. Don't waste your money. Good thing Duff is known for being a decorator and not flavor recipes. However, his opinions on the baking championship shows are now not as meaningful, If what he sells in his stores, is what tastes good to him.
Visiting Baltimore from Canada, was so excited to visit and try their cupcakes but it was horrible....purchased 4 cupcakes and an oven mitt because other souvenir items I was interested in were out of stock for many months the lady said...all 4 cupcakes were dry, crumbly and the icing flavors were so bland and oily, cupcakes were old....such a bummer because i was so excited but it was so expensive for garbage...strange for a place so famous, it's like they got their fame and now they don't care about quality?
