"Let Your Inner Art Out!"
Welcome to the Arts Playground, where you can “Let Your Inner Art Out!”
The Vision
A thriving artistic community with five separate, yet connected, arts based entities. A community in which artists of all ages can come to grow their passion and performance of their chosen type of art, from performance arts to visual arts. Arts Playground will offer classes and incubation areas in the community to help to foster creativity and imagination.
The Premise
Numerous national and international studies have shown over and over that children who participate in the arts have a decisive advantage in life, school work, cognitive development, problem solving skills, and they have higher ACT scores.
Art teaches students about subtleties, evaluation and judgment, and enables them to discover the range and variety of what we, as humans, are capable of doing. In essence, children become all around better when they are involved, even a little, in the arts.
The Good Stuff
Arts Playground will be located in Urbana, Ohio and we are working on procuring a space large enough to house the community. As soon as a building has been secured, the proposed roll out of the Arts Playground will start with the “Ready To Rock Academy.” As we grow, we anticipate that the other arts entities, as described below, will follow.
The first arts entity that will be opened is the "Ready To Rock Academy." This performance based music school will teach students to play rock and roll songs and then perform them in a real rock and roll style show on a stage with professional grade sound and lights. To start, children aged 7 to 17 will learn 10 to 20 songs per performance and then perform on a stage with and a sound system and lighting to get the full rock and roll experience. Students will perform on a stage housed within the Arts Playground facility.
The second arts entity will be a visual arts school. Traditional arts will be taught with a twist. By using recycled items to create art work, students will learn about and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of art that they can display and even sell. Class and gallery spaces will allow for work from the smallest of pieces to the largest sculptures.
The third arts entity will be more of a traditional performance art school. This school will focus on smaller performance such as plays, musicals, one acts, readers’ theater, improv, etc. As the community expands, so will this school, with a goal of larger productions and musicals. This space will also allow for productions of outside performance groups to bring their magic to life as well.
The fourth arts entity will be Arts On Wheels. This will be a mobile unit that will take visual and performing arts directly to various groups and places where art is wanted and needed. Such places and groups would include home school students, Developmental Disability facilities, schools, senior citizens, nursing homes, and community events. Where ever there is a need for art, arts on wheels will be there.
The fifth arts entity will be the rental of the gallery and performance areas of the facilities. With two eventual performance spaces and a large gallery space groups from both inside the Arts Playground and out, these spaces for will be available for performances, private parties, corporate events, wedding receptions, recitals, performance groups, local players groups, and many others. This space will offer flexible options for many varied uses.
Going forward from today, we are focusing on a comprehensive 3 year plan. The initial goal is having the initial part of the Arts Playground community and the Ready To Rock Academy open in Spring 2013. Once we are operational and sustainable with the Ready To Rock Academy, we will then focus on opening the additional programs.
If you would like to be one of the first students to be a part of the Ready To Rock Academy, please let us know by contacting Richard Ebert to be put on the waiting list and for more information.
