Best public library on west coast I've seen out of many. Lots of power outlets including lockable machine to charge while running errands. There is a free food cabinet and grassy areas in front you can take a break outdoors on. The staff is great and very accommodating. I love this library...
Scary place to visit now. It's really not the libraries fault but wow. Packed full of issues and the entrance is brutal. Absolutely from a 10 years ago to a 3. So disappointing to see it degress and now be a homeless shelter. Clean it up and tell them to leave. Bathrooms are terrifying and most likely full of diseases. Yikes.
Great library, has always been a nice quiet place to rest, staff are friendly, lots of comfortable places to sit. Hours could be longer.
Wonderful collections of books, music, games and puzzles! Very helpful employees to aid in answering questions.
One of our favorite places in all of Ashland. Amazing friendly people who remember you and treat you like family. Everyone who works there is truly wonderful and they do great classes and lectures. Can’t say enough wonderful things about our library!!!
These people used to be understanding of the homeless population, but they now-discriminate towards homeless individuals because of the elite rich people here. They hold our rights hostage when it’s posted on the door of the building. All are welcome. They break the constitutional rights to live happy and also to freedom of speech. They got angry when I spilled the truth and called them out for being two faced. A rule can’t be made up when someone has a migraine for 4 days and also having a bad day to kick them out, and also my fellow human beings. I will speak out because most people won’t. The policy is used against the homeless people. The air is freezing outside and they lie about the times the shelter is supposed to be open and mostly always closed when well below freezing at night. Some people have no choice. Some people will speak out against it and some will sit in silence and I’m not one to be silent when clearly there should be some major discipline and termination. The Jackson county library hasn’t taken accountability. They’re just like the city and a lot of the cops
There are homeless people who actually want to get something done in the library what used to be known as library business, or even need a warm place to read. Why does no one ever think of us? The lion's share of resources always go to accommodate the squeaky wheels anyway, and many times the rest of us are simply left out in the cold, in more ways than one.
So many resources here. Can print & scan. Borrow things other than books like giant backyard rainbow sprinklers and fishing gear. Lots of different events, both online & in-person. I love our library!!
The Ashland Public Library, and the Jackson County Library system, are great. The Ashland Library has great staff including real reference librarians! Throughout the library there are comfortable areas for lounging around reading books. Many computer terminals area available for patron use. I have attended library events and private events in various meeting rooms. These are available for public use for free. Terrific place.
Mostly what you want. Great selection of fiction and always have books on sale. Their non fiction is decent, and their theatre collection is great. A lot of patrons ignore library etiquette. Speaking on phones, and, hate to discriminate, but typically older, so loud yelling into phones with high volume or speaker on. Lots of transients/travellers who leave their belongings in the window nooks even though signs are posted not to. Staff is pretty helpful when they want to be. Younger ones especially. Older staff members are dismissive at times. Fees are ridiculous and often erroneous. Example: I returned a Tennessee Williams script and it was never re-entered in the system. A month later I got an invoice for $45 for a replacement script price gouging much? I searched the theatre shelves and found it right next to the new script they purchased as a replacement. Took it to the front desk and they asked if I had decided to return it that day. After I assured them I did not the fee was taken off my account. I do enjoy it though in the afternoon or morning when it's not peak hours. Lovely building, comfy seats, and great views.
