Ashley Sparks is an attorney and mediator employed at Cooper, Goedicke, Reimer and Reese, P.C. Her practice areas include, but are not limited to, family law, juvenile law and criminal law matters. Ashley is a trained mediator and is happy to assist in negotiating family law matters through mediation.
Ashley attended Drake University Law School and has a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to graduate school and law school, Ashley worked for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. For undergrad, she attended Western Illinois University where she double majored in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and Psychology, and graduated cum laude.
Over the course of her education, Ashley enjoyed a wide-range of experiences. During her time at UNI, she received training in psychological diagnosis, assessment and treatment, along with working as a counselor at the student health center. She also worked with the mental health team in an Iowa prison. Ashley has completed extensive research, primarily in the area of criminal stereotypes. She has published the 2012-2013 Criminal Law Newsletter, and a note called “High Land Prices and the Destruction of Family Farms” in the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law. She also assisted in writing a brief for a case argued before the United States Supreme Court and with the 2013 update of the Iowa Practice Series in Criminal Law. While at Drake, Ashley completed internships in both criminal prosecution and defense. She was honored with the Robert J. Kromminga Award for outstanding representation and advocacy in the Criminal Defense Program at Drake.
Ashley is a member of the Iowa Bar Association and Polk County Women Attorneys. She is also an adjunct instructor at Des Moines Area Community College.
