Working with Tony Calabro at Astoria Park Recording is a sheer pleasure. His expertise is unquestioned, not to mention unrivaled; but in addition, his sensitivity to the music and insight into what it may need is beyond compare. I have recorded countless songs with Tony and, without exception, he has made all of them immeasurably better. If that isn't enough, Tony makes the whole process fun. It is always the highlight of my week to spend time in his studio. I cannot recommend Tony Calabro and Astoria Park Recording highly enough.
I really can't say enough about working with Tony Calabro at Astoria Park Recording. He is insanely talented, with a unique ability to shape both an artist and their music to achieve results beyond what one could have imagined. Furthermore, he is sincere, patient, and enthusiastic about every project, so you always leave a session feeling like you've produced the best possible results under his guidance. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Working with Tony on my EP “Wrong Me” and now on a full album of songs that I’m incredibly proud of, has been exactly what one would want out of a recording experience: First and most importantly, I’m delighted with how the music came out, and second, the recording process was a joy. Tony is fun to be around: grounded, positive, and easygoing with genuine excitement and desire to make exceptional music. When he’s with you he’s really present; immersed in the song and striving thoughtfully to make it even better than the last one. He’s a collaborator: he listens with openness to my ideas and also comes to the table overflowing with his own. 99% of which I love, and in the rare case I don’t, I am comfortable telling him and he easily moves on to find another choice we’re both happy with. It’s a gift to have an artistic relationship with someone I’m completely comfortable being honest with. He’s a ridiculously accomplished musician. A sick guitar player and creator of sneakily catchy bass lines, heartbreakingly pretty piano, and fantastic drums. He can play real instruments or do more electronic stuff or a mix, depending on the needs of the song. Tony himself is a great singer with vast music theory knowledge. He comes up with harmonies on the spot for my songs, and has even helped me build my skill as a singer and specifically as a recording artist. Through our work he’s taught me how to use the mic to my advantage for the different tones and feels I’m trying to achieve. One of the skills he brings to the table that has made a huge difference in many of my songs, is his arranging and co-writing. I have brought in a mess of lyrics and chord progressions scattered all over the page, and with Tony’s help, walked out with a finished song. I have also brought in near-completed songs that just need a little help on the bridge or in transitions, and he “guides the song to where it wants to go” his words; never taking full credit for amount he contributes in this area. Tony is a gem. I’m so glad I’ve gotten to work with him!
