Athanatos Publishing Group

About

APG is a publisher that features Christian fiction and non-fiction, 'literary apologetics,' and other unique works.

Description

Who we are and what we do: Athanatos Christian Ministries is committed to applying the Christian worldview, with an emphasis on pro-life issues, in creative contexts that range from writing workshops, to literary apologetics education and publishing, to a local arts festival. ACM is explicitly oriented towards using the arts to defend and strengthen the case for Christianity.

“He has set eternity in the hearts of men.”

(Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Athanatos Writing Workshops

Athanatos Writing Workshops further ACM’s mission to encourage and support Christian authors in their quest to promote Christianity through the written word. ACM contest judge, Debbie Thompson, holds these writing workshops in October, February, and May over the Internet, allowing you to participate from around the world at your own pace. As part of our Athanatos Online Apologetics Academy, our 3-5 week modules are designed with the busy person in mind. These courses are available throughout the year on a ‘self-guided’ basis.

Literary Apologetics Certificate Program

ACM’s Literary Apologetics Certificate Program is designed to ensure that our artists are theologically informed, alert to modern challenges to the faith, and understand that having a genuine Christian faith is no substitute for the need for excellence in our writing, music, etc. At this time, ACM’s emphasis is on literature. In due time, other artistic forms may be added.

Athanatos Christian Ministries has a unique approach to apologetics: We believe that the culture itself has a tremendous impact on what one believes and that the culture in turn is heavily influenced by the arts. Christianity is often undermined by cultural undercurrents, but historically Christians themselves have been highly involved in contributing to the cultural conversation. ACM hopes to help renew that involvement by encouraging Christians to enter the public sphere in a knowledgeable fashion. Criticism has rightly been levied against the ‘Christian ghetto,’ but that doesn’t mean we should dilute–or worse, jettison–our Christian faith in a quest to be accepted by non-Christians. Rather, our goal should be to understand that there is a relationship between the culture, arts, and one’s worldview, whether we like it or not. Hence, it is necessary at all times to understand how our own faith impacts our creations while being sensitive to the realities that exist in our largely unbelieving culture.

Many of our Academy students go on to publish their work through Athanatos Publishing Group or one of our imprints.

Athanatos Publishing Group

Athanatos Publishing Group defends and strengthens the case for Christianity through the literary arts. Both fiction and nonfiction submissions are welcome. ACM offers a hybrid approach to publishing: contracts typically allow the author to retain all rights and can offer terms that range from no upfront cost to the author (standard publisher/author relationship) to some costs (quasi-self publishing).

ACM publishes under three imprints. Athanatos Publishing Group is our most ‘traditional’ platform. Our Paley, Whately, & Greenleaf Press is our place for ‘partner-publishing’, which is the closest we come to offering ‘self-publishing’ services. Finally, Suzeteo Enterprises is used for certain, select works.

Some of the books we publish are also used in our apologetics library club. Some of our academy courses are or will be taught by our authors using their own textbooks published through us. Many of them are entered into one of our writing contests. Some of our authors talk about their work in one of our apologetics conference talks. The contests and conferences were recently consolidated into our local arts festival.

Athanatos Arts Festival and Contest

Athanatos Christian Ministries will be hosting its first annual Athanatos Arts Festival in the summer of 2016. Join us August 4-7, 2016 in Greenwood, WI. All artistic expressions will be featured: music, film, novels, drama, the visual arts, etc. In the spirit of ACM’s mission to defend the Christian faith through the arts, the festival will encourage artists to appeal as much to secular audiences as with Christian ones. This festival will be held in conjunction with the Athanatos Writing Contest.
