We are dedicated to preserving, archiving, and promoting the history of Athens.
The Athens and Area Heritage Museum is operated by the Athens Heritage Society which is a committee of the Municipal Council and has been in existence since 2004. We have permanent displays relating to Mother Barnes, Dr. Leonora Howard King, the Lambs Pharmacy, the British Home Children, The Heroine of Charleston, Crawford Slack Paintings, an operating telephone switchboard and much more, Children's activities and programming is available as well as a large archives of local history photos, information and artefacts. The society is interested in collecting and scanning any related materials and urges public participation.
