Our Mission:
•To collect and preserve historical materials exemplifying the family histories, events, places, and lifestyles of the people of Atlantic County and southern New Jersey.
•To encourage the study of history and genealogy.
•To provide historical and genealogical information to our membership and the general public.
We house over 9,000 books, over 20,000 photos as early as 1860, hundreds of maps, most of the county newspapers from 1888 to 1954, and over 125,000 documents in our library collection. Our museum also contains thousands of items from Atlantic County and South Jersey.
Uncover your family stories at the Atlantic County Historical Society's extensive library! Over time, this rich community resource has grown to become the premiere repository of historical and genealogical handwritten, typed, and electronic documents relating to Atlantic County residents, businesses, institutions, and governments. Some original manuscripts date to the late 1600's. A large vault provides fire protection for documents.
