Don’t be like me and take years to give this place a try because it’s incredible. Some of the best Tatziki get some on the side for the lemon potatoesi I’ve ever had and the spicy feta dip is amazing too. Not only was the food amazing but the service was stunning. Make sure you ask for Shelia if you go.Food: 5/5
The Brown Sauce !! Almost every restaurant I visit has its unique dish or accoutrement that makes it memorable. On this visit to Downtown Ecorse, I stopped into a well-known local Greek Eatery, the Auburn Cafe. I was in the mood for something simple and fast since I was famished. The interior brings you back a few decades, but don't let the lack of a modern touch fool you, they make great food here. Once I was seated, my server recommended something that I haven't had in years, a traditional Greek Soup called Avgolemono, which is a Lemon Rice Soup. If you have travelled or dined on the cuisines such as Greek, Arab, Sephardic Jewish, Turkish, Balkan and Jewish-Italian then you that Avgolemono is a family of sauces and soups made with egg yolk and lemon juice mixed with broth, heated until they thicken. The Auburn does a great take on this dish. Next was an old favourite, Pork Souvlaki or Pork Kabob. The grilled, marinated and tender pork was very good. My server before my meal came out told me that I should the 'Brown Sauce'. She was right as it did add some complexity and flavour to my meal. I honestly didn't know what to expect when trying Greek Cuisine in the Detroit area, but I can say that Auburn Cafe keeps it real. if you're looking for a great greek meal and experience, give them a shot. Parking: There is a parking lot and street parking near the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: If your kids like Greek food then they should be okay to eat here.
I've been coming here for over 25 years! Excellent food and service everytime. We like to start off with some flaming cheese, a Greek salad, and pita bread followed by the chicken dinner! Make sure to ask for extra brown sauce! To cap off a perfect meal, I highly recommend the custard desserts!!!Food: 5/5
We have gone here for over 30 years. It has always been the same, great food, friendly service and lots of murals of Greece painted upon the walls. Just go, because if you don't you are missing one of the greatest meals you will ever have.Food: 5/5
I took a chance tonight and after searching online for a new place to eat out, I came across Auburn Cafe in Ecorse. My wife seemed nervous as I did not let her know what I had chose, just that we had not been there before. What a hidden Gem - I would highly recommend you give this place a try. As it was Friday, we were looking for Seafood. Bonus 1/2 off second Seafood Entre with purchase of another on Friday Evenings. I had the Salmon, My Wife enjoyed the Orange Roughy. Both were cooked to perfection, we didn't leave any to waste and the portions were generous. We also shared a Greek Salad, and Lemon Potatoes. Impressed with everything. I almost hate to make this recommendation in fear that too many people will find out about this great restaurant in the Ecorse, MI area. A++++ in my book. P.S. Our waitress Audrie exceeded our expectations with some of the best hospitality I've experienced - even brought us a surprise dessert. Thank you all again for the great dining experience. Adding on to my review... my wife & I made it back for the highly recommended Lamb Chops... If I could add on another star, I would. The service was again spot on and the food exceeded our expectations, keep up the great work - we will most certainly be back! Bonus of Buy 1 Lamb Chop Dinner / Get Second at 1/2 price on Monday & Tuesday after 5... We had left overs which were still delicious the next day.
Okay, very unassuming place. In a very unassuming location, but once inside you are greeted by a very friendly host and sat according to your needs. Yeah a little older inside than some people may like, but once you are greeted by the waitstaff and shown great customer service you know you are in for a treat. The food was fantastic. Me and my wife got the couples dinner, and they accommodated us because we do not drink with a substitution of another appetizer. So I got the lamb chops and she got the salmon. Saladsgreek, soupslemon rice, garlic sauce and the saganaki was excellent. The Greek dressing had to be home made and the feta cheese was fresh and not overwhelming. Potatoes was good also. Please come and see for yourself, I do not think you will be disappointed.
Been dining here for many years. I always order the lamb chop dinner. It’s worth every penny of the $35.00 cost. Glad it’s not located in the Wyandotte/Southgate Area. It would be crowded, and hard to get a table. No complaints only compliments.Food: 5/5
Waiter was very nice young man, on top of it. Waitress was very good but she rushed what you were trying to say and cutting you offering to guess what your were going to saying. A bit annoying But she was attentive and on top of it. We dined in and got carry out. Potatoes ships kabob were good as wellFood: 5/5
Wow! You don’t have to go downtown to get great Greek food. I really liked the eggplant appetizer, lemon potatoes and grape leaves. It gets really busy here at lunchtime so come when it opens if you can or a little bit after noon. I couldn’t get a parking spot and had to park on the street. It wasn’t a big problem but if you can avoid it, I’d recommend it.
I've been eating here for much of my adult life and will truly miss it when I move. The food is consistently great. The lambchops and tomato salad are my favorites. Ask for the brown sauce for the meats. The staff feels like family. Parking: 20 plus lots
