Description

Auburn is a small city located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State, 25 miles West of Syracuse. The city of 28,000 is at the northern tip of Owasco Lake and is the legislative service and cultural center for Cayuga County. The Auburn Enlarged City School District serves the city of Auburn and the municipalities of Fleming, Sennett and 0wasco, with a total district population of about 42,000.

The district provides an excellent educational program for 4,240 full-time students as well as those who participate in night school and other programs. The professional staff consists of 22 administrators, 379 teachers and a support staff of 210.

The district encompasses 37 square miles with an annual budget of $71,353,414. The Board of Education consists of 9 members, three of whom are elected annually to three year terms.

Auburn Enlarged City School District provides a diverse range of learning opportunities for all students. The District's goals focus on equity and achievement so that each student will contribute positively to the schools and community.

Auburn provides excellent opportunities for post-secondary studies at Cayuga Community College and the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology. Rich in history, Auburn has been the home of many famous persons, including former Secretary of State William H. Seward, freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, and the father of talking pictures, Theodore Case. Major employers include NUCOR steel, Auburn Community Hospital, Auburn Correctional Facility, and many large and small businesses.
