My first and last visit. CAUTION! It's not clear one must pay a $30 add-on fee to the plantation owner in addition the $10 ticket to see the swamp. I am an amateur bird photographer. For the best chance at good photos, one must be up early with the sun, but the plantation doesn't open until nine - at least two hours after sunrise during spring, summer and fall.. If you don't get the first place in the very long and glacially slow ticket line, it will be even later before one sees the first bird. To be fair, the boardwalk through the swamp is in top condition and the trails very-well maintained. The staff is polite and enthusiastic, but either new or untrained; or both. The maps provided are not all all to scale and thus, confusing. None of this seems to bother anyone as the plantation parking lot was packed during a weekday spring morning.
I liked the swamp tour. It was only a 10$ add-on. The lake along the trail was really pretty, especially since it was fall. There were lots of alligators and turtles. The trail takes around 30-45mins to complete.
I think this place is ok. It's located near the entrance of the whole garden, and it cost $10 per head to visit this place. I personally don't think it's worth it after doing the tour. It's mostly just a swamp. We didn't see any alligators due to weather. And the rests are just birds and turtles. Also I have noticed there are loopholes in how you get in here. We parked in the parking lot and had to pay $10 to get in. But I have seen people just walked over and entered via side road to avoid paying. Not sure if this is fair.
Absolutely beautiful. It’s best to come in the spring or early summer when the birds are nesting, but still stunning year round. There are a large variety of birds, plants, mushrooms, spiders, reptiles, etc. Bring your camera and binoculars. It’s also fun to use Seek and/or iNaturalist to find hundreds of species.
They need to do some work on the parts of the swamp that are completely over grown. Was pretty disappointed until we hit the very back of the property. Only a third of the swamp was actually visible due to the over growth in the front 2/3 of the attraction.
We love this place! There is so much beautiful wildlife to see here. There was so much to see on the trails and boardwalks! We will be going back!
Our first time in the South and this was absolutely amazing.. educational and for me emotional. It's actually a plantation but it's so beautiful and the history behind it is AMAZING. I would recommend going to see it. It's EXTREMELY HUGE.. we didn't have enough time to see everything but we will most definitely be back.
Was visiting from out of town and went here and it was amazing. Even on memorial day when it was busy we were able to social distance. Had to pay separate prices for different attractions but they were par for the course and it allowed you to pick and choose what you wanted to do. Your main ticket in can Aldo be used more than one day so you can come back another day. Saw so many different wildlife elements. I saw dolphins, gators, turtles, herons, lizards, owls and much more. Beautiful place and well worth it.
It was a perfect day for a nice, long walk in the swamp garden this afternoon. All the birds, gators, tortoises, bumble bees, and lizards were out and about, and most of the flowers were still in bloom. This place looks like a well cared for garden with long, shaded walking paths throughout the entire garden. I will definitely go back, preferably later in the afternoon just like today so it's not so warm out.
WOW! I'm not sure I if I can find the words to describe the Audubon Swamp Gardens but I'll try. Located inside Magnolia Plantation off Highway 61. Take a leisurely stroll through the petting zoo then set off for the swamp. Don't forget the bug spray!Wooden boardwalks provide an upclose tour of South Carolina wildlife in their natural habitats. Fact filled plaques along the way tell you all about the beautiful surroundings. There's a few footpaths to navigate along the way so keep an eye out for ground dwelling friends. Be sure your camera battery is charged and ready. You'd hate to miss that perfect shot! Seeing is believing definitely applies here. Enjoy!
