We stopped in Burlington for a bite to eat and were recommended to try August First. It’s a popular spot with a line out the door when we arrived, but an employee was passing out free sample of their chocolate chip pumpkin bread. It was so delicious that I ordered a piece for myself! I also got the Vermonter sandwich which was pretty good. It comes with turkey, cheese, red onion, Apple chutney and a cranberry mayo. The combination of the mayo and Apple chutney worked well. For a drink I got an iced vanilla latte. It was ok, a little more milk vs. espresso than I’d like. Some other items we ordered were the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and a chocolate croissant. Their pastries are really the highlight. Freshly made and you can tell.
I had the avocado toast with pickled onions and fried egg on top…OMG mouth watering amazingness. Literally the best avocado toast I have EVER had. My husband got the steak and egg sandwich. Fresh ingredients. He’d order it again but make sure to have extra napkins because it’s a little greasy. The place is like a small warehouse and not really air conditioned but it was still nice with a small breeze. People were nice. I will definitely be back!! Thank you!
Visited August First for breakfast on a Monday morning. I had a breakfast special and it was very special! I was pleasantly surprised on the perfect cook and blend of all the flavors on my home fries breakfast bowl. The place itself is baking fresh bread using it in their meals, selling it by the loaf and making your nostrils just as happy as your taste buds. The eating area has indoor and outdoor seating and clearly aims to be open air. They encourage no devices sit downs to enjoy your food and your company. It's a very chill environment even when it is getting very busy. They offer a variety of breakfast pastries and you can get it all to go if you're on the move. Service was smooth and fast and they kept everything moving as the lines grew. Pricing was reasonable and we will happily without hesitation keep going back. Enjoy!
Absolutely delicious breakfast bakery/cafe. Their griddled maple biscuits are NOT to be missed - they’re served with maple butter and fresh berry jam, and sooooo good. All their breads are baked fresh there and looked perfect. We got here a little before they started serving lunch and their menu for that looked incredible, too!
Definitely an exceptional place, everything on the menu looks extremely spectacular and delicious, the place is quite busy so you must line up to order, of course it’s not a problem because the service is quite fast, a 100% recommended siteFood: 5/5
Great service and atmosphere and the Vermonter sandwich was very nice. However, I ordered a large coffee and it was one of the worst coffees I've ever had - I struggled to get through it. I didn't add sugar but it was extremely sweet. Other than the coffee, a very nice experience.
If you're in the city of Burlington and you're looking for the best bread around, look no further than August First. This bustling eatery is known for its incredible baked goods, particularly its bread, which is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Despite the crowds that often gather outside, it's worth braving the line to experience the quality of the bread for yourself. The service can take a bit, but trust us when we say that the bread is worth the wait. If you're a bread lover, you simply can't miss this place. Inside, the atmosphere is lovely and provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a cozy and inviting space that feels like a different world entirely. Now, let's talk about the food. We tried the Avocado Toast, the Focaccia which we used at home for a pesto pasta dinner, and a chocolate cookie, and everything was fantastic. The bread was the perfect amount of airy, and the crust was impressively crispy. The prices were about 10-15 bucks per item, which might seem a bit steep, but when you consider the quality of the bread, it's easily worth it. Overall, I can't recommend August First enough. If you're a bread lover, this is a must-visit spot in the city of Burlington. Just be prepared to wait in line and maybe have a bit of patience with the service. But once you take a bite of that amazing bread, you'll know it was all worth it. Vegetarian options: Vegan options too! Including entrées and cookies!
Cute and cozy cafe in Burlington! It was a rainy day so definitely felt nice to have a warm cup of coffee. The chocolate croissant was yummy. The atmosphere is very laid back. Enjoyed it.Food: 5/5
Excellent choice for breakfast! This a vibrant and lively eatery which gets very busy on weekend mornings! The wait was worth it since the food was excellent! We had the maple granola with vanilla yogurt and the avocado toast with added smoked salmon and fried egg. The maple granola was definitely freshly made in house and with good flavor and dense with healthy ingredients. It wasn't too sweet either. The vanilla yogurt gave a nice tart contrast for the granola! The avocado toast was topped with smoked salmon and fried egg and was superb! The toast itself was also freshly baked and wonderful! Coffee was also delicious and freshly ground! Service was friendly and fairly quick considering the place was very busy! Atmosphere was vibrant and casual! You can eat inside or outside! A great choice for breakfast and brunch!
here is a pretty place to eat, especially in summer. the little terassr is really nice. I advise you to taste everything! it's excellent on maple buns The staff is friendly and helpful. I recommend !
