Description

American Style Bistro

"“Local fresh” is the theme of Aurelia, the JB Restaurant Group’s first restaurant. As Chef James Balchak defines it, “I believe in Northeast Ohio; the food will be sourced from local farms, fisheries and suppliers. All food products will be fresh and seasonal and the menu will change based on what is available during the season or on that day.” The New American-style bistro will offer a wide variety of high quality food in an upscale, yet causal environment at reasonable prices."

This is a hard one to rate. Went in for happy hour with a 5::30pm reservation. Happy hour goes from 4-6. There were only two other tables seated at the time we arrived. A couple and a single. No one at the bar. The only employees visible was one server, who is also the hostess and one bartender. She informs us when she came to take our drink that if we wanted anything happy hour, we needed to stand up and order it ourselves from the bar! Perhaps their policy, seemed pointless, especially seeing that they have a sign at their front door offering happy hour without a “bar only” qualifier. Regardless, it was off putting and she refused to serve us anything happy hour. So we placed a “non” happy hour drink order. Mai Tai’s. I will say they were excellent. We both enjoyed our entrees one was a salmon salad and the other the scallops with jasmine rice and broccolini. The scallops were small but tasty and only had 4 on the plate. I have never eaten my dinner and still felt hungry before in my life, so this was the first time I ate it all! Feel like another scallop would have been the right portion seeing they were small. Very tasty however and well prepared. The restaurant filled up and service was slow. The server was doubling as a hostess, drink runner, server. She forgot things, probably because she was terribly overworked! I have to say overall, it was good. The service was a damper and I probably will not return.
It saddens me to see this place going so far downhill. Mick the bartender is fantastic, but everything else is pretty disappointing now. First, the restaurant. The ladies bathroom door has been broken for weeks, it's been incredibly warm inside and was told the owner can't afford to replace the A/C unit so can't turn it up too high, and then the horrible smell when you walk in takes a bit to recover from and regain your appetite. If you run a restaurant, you need to be able to maintain it! Then the food... IT'S THE SAME THINGS ALL THE TIME! It is incredibly boring and unless you check the menu daily to catch a one off dish, it gets old fast. The food itself isn't great anymore, either. Usually not seasoned enough, but sometimes, like the hatch burger the other day, way too salty. For how much the dishes have increased in price, they would hopefully be seasoned correctly. With so much more variety, better value and maintained restaurants in town, Aurelia has become a lesser choice over a first.
Truly a local gem. We ate at the bar and everyone seemed to know the bar tender and one another and were very friendly. Make a reservation if you want a table, they get very busy! We enjoyed a flat bread, cauliflower and salad. Everything was fresh, tasty and high quality! Service was fast, friendly and attentive. A perfect spot for a bite to eat after the Chagrin Film festival. Upscale, lively and delicious!
Easily the BEST burger in town! Ohio raised Miller Farm beef and Harvest Bell Farm egg on top, and the house made pickles really completed the whole thing. The bun to meat ratio was perfect as well, not bready or dry in fact the bun was soft and I believe, grilled. Just superb. The hand cut fries were absolutely delicious……the whole thing was sublime. Also ordered the scallops with rice and the scallops were cooked perfectly and very flavorful along with the jasmine rice. And all of this was takeout! I don’t usually like to write any review based on takeout but this was too good not to. Highly recommend. Parking: There is street parking and a big parking lot in the back as well, free.
Heard great things about Aurelia so we decided to give it a try. My meal was delicious, but a little heavy on the salt. Our server was very good and attentive. I got the duck based on her recommendation and it did not disappoint! It is a bit pricey. My friend loved her spicy paloma cocktail.Food: 4/5
Tasty and healthy food. Excellent wait staff. 2 top seating is very tight. We asked to sit a seat over from the only table in the restaurant and were told no. The table next to us left because the host refused to give spacing in between tables when many tables were available more than half the restaurant was open. I completely understand reservations but better planning would allow for alternate seating upon opening.
Outstanding food, incredible service! This place is truly special. Chef James and the rest of the staff are amazing and made me feel at home. I truly have not tried one item that wasn’t excellent. The fresh, original cocktails and extensive wine list is the cherry on top of the incredible cuisine! The sangria is to die for, and uses a ton of fresh fruit as the sweetness so it’s not too sugary. I also love the Oolong Sweet Tea cocktail that has fresh brewed tea, homemade lemonade, and Tito’s. Last night I had the Lake Erie Walleye cakes and the salmon salad with strawberries, both incredible. The freshness of the ingredients really shines through; I don’t think I have ever had sweeter strawberries in my life! The berries on the salad were balanced so nicely with the thick, perfectly seared salmon and creamy, delicious goat cheese atop a bed of tender, flavorful local lettuce- Yum!! And the walleye cakes were crisp on the outside, and super flavorful and well seasoned. I loved the house made remoulade on top! I also tried my friend’s chicken fricasse with Ohio raised chicken and local mushroom gravy; it was so incredibly juicy and the sauce was outrageous!!! So well seasoned! The ever changing menu makes me want to try everything before it goes away, and makes me so excited to come back the next week for the freshest ingredients Chef James has found at the local farms! So happy to have a locally sourced restaurant in Chagrin! Also excited to finally have a Sunday brunch spot in downtown Chagrin Falls definitely feels upscale with the atmosphere and the food, while also being reasonably priced and casual
I had the walleye, and my wife had the chicken. Was the food from a box? The walleye: I am not sure it was walleye. No flavor, nothing that I would expect. It reminded me of fish out of a box. The hush puppies are the same. They tasted like the Pillsbury brand out of the box. The slaw was a mess of onions. The fries were the only good part of the meal; not great, but good. The chicken: Dry, just plain dry. The outer edges had to be cut away. As far as the sauce: sweet chili and tamari sauce, not sure where the chef was going with this, but it was not on a good road to the table. We will not return. Chagrin Falls has much more worth while restaurants, and now we know why it was easy to get a reservation here.
Server Karen had no training at all. She knew nothing about the whiskey list. She brought over a three ring binder to show my husband. Next the beer list. She had to leave our table again to get a list of the beers. Ordered the beef and broccoli. It was just mediocre. Not worth it for the price. They had no bread for the table. Nor did they offer a dinner salad. Will not be returning.
Popped in for brunch. Ordered the Brisket Hash. Had a nice combination of egg ,potatoes, and meat. So savory. Coffee is great, you can tell they care about the coffee they serve.. I found a new brunch spot. Service is attentive and friendly.
