Aurora Pastry is a family owned bakery that makes what many say are the best tasting, highest quality wedding cakes, pastries, and cookies in Southern Ontario. Aurora Pastry is Windsor's oldest and only artisanal bakery. Located in the heart of Windsor's little Italy since 1964, Aurora Pastry specializes in hand made sicilian canoli, lemon and cream horns, cream puffs, extravagant wedding cakes, Italian cakes, pastries and cookies and is dedicated to quality and tradition of its Italian heritage. The recipes and quality of product have been passed through 3 generations in the Maria family. Owner and Pasticcere, Joseph Maria Jr. is committed to guaranteeing a high level of quality in each and every pastry, cookie and cake he makes with his own hands and family recipes.
Giuseppe (Joe) Maria Senior opened Aurora Pastry in 1964 on a small road called Erie street. Giuseppe was called to serve in the Second World War but due to respiratory problems was dismissed. Soon after he would take his family and leave Sicily to come to Canada with dreams of work and a future. As a child Giuseppe worked as a baker in Marsala making canoli, cakes and cookies; this would become his passion and the future he was looking for. By the early 70’s Erie Street was becoming home to many Italian immigrants and was known as “Little Italy.” In 1988, Joe Maria Junior would take over the bakery from his father with dreams of expansion and continuing his father’s legacy. Second generation baker-decorator Joe Maria Jr. uses what he learned from his father and has continued to develop his skills while taking his artistry to new heights. Joe Jr. has been personally meeting with every customer for over 20 years to ensure that their cake is customized to their individual needs and desires.
