Stopped by and was happy to see the historic Austin House is alive and well. Picked up a piece of chocolate Fudge Pie to go along with a can of wild Huckleberry Soda. Was a most excellent combination. Will be back for more home cooked bites and treats.Food: 5/5
So greatful a coworker invited me out to dinner this evening. It was my first visit here, I will be back. It was schnitzel, spaetzle and cabbage for dinner...outstanding home cooked meal. I had my first ever pie of huckleberry pie...the pies are so perfectly crafted they do not even look real. The staff are helpful and friendly. Thank you for a great dinner.
Great stop and wonderful owners. I camped out back for the night. $10 and a shower was well worth it. And the milkshake was very tasty.Service: 5/5
Adorable cafe and was so glad we found this gem on our travels. We stopped for dessert and got fudge and huckleberry pie. They were warmed for us and served with ice cream. I mean, to die for. If you're looking for homemade treats in a a friendly atmosphere, this is the place! They all serve regular lunch and dinner items, although we went for the sweets. It all looked delish. Decor was fantastic, bathrooms were clean and loved the old timey furniture and set up. Want to come back!
If you’re traveling between John Day and Ontario, Oregon this is a no-brainer. The new owners have done a nice job and the food is fantastic. We had shakes one evening and mine had real huckleberries. The next morning we had breakfast and it was great as well. For sure a stop for us whenever we are in the area!Food: 5/5
It's worth the stop if you are in the area and worth the drive from Prairie City, Sumpter, or John Day. Good BBQ, pies, ice cream, etc. The owners are super nice and enjoyable to converse with. Take time to stop at Austin House.
Ok for traveling stop by for a quick refresh. Grrrr8 ice cream. Small food menu.Food: 3/5
This place was truly incredible. It's a little place basically out in the middle of nowhere that seems pretty much ran by one woman, but it is easily worth a stop. I had the 2 egg and meat breakfast. The eggs were solid, the toast was buttered to perfection, and the bacon was absolutely amazing. But the true star of the meal was the hashbrowns. Hashbrowns are my thing when it comes to breakfast, I can't get enough of them, and these were undoubtedly some of the best hashbrowns I have had in my entire life. They were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was simply incredible. The service was also top notch, especially from only a single person. And the best part was the price! 10 dollars for a meal. That would have been a steal 5 years ago, these days it's a deal of the century! If you are in the area or if you just want an incredible breakfast, try this place out.
“Ma” Austin founded this rest stop/restaurant in the early 1900’s during the heyday of the railroad logging years. She served trout, venison, and delicious pies. The current owners are equally gracious although the menu has changed. Anyone who travels Hwy 26 through here should definitely make this rest stop. The huckleberry ice cream floats are fantastic!
Lovely stop on the way from Boise to Prineville. Great food and service in a fabulous building.Food: 5/5
