Stop by after an appointment across the street. The diner was very busy on a Saturday morning. Waitress was sweet and accommodating. Decor is very rustic old school diner. Food took a little while to come out but was very good and tasty. I just don't understand why they charge 3 percent to use a credit card when paying for your meal. There should be no extra charge.
I've read a lot of bad reviews for this place but that was after I stopped in for dinner. The interior of this place is definitely dated and in need of a renovation. Old diners like this are either cool and retro or not so cool and kind of dirty. This one had a dirty vibe. The bathroom is gross The salt and pepper shaker on my table looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the 70s. My server was fine, but she was not the friendliest person. She spoke very little ... just took my order and disappeared for a good half hour. Ironically she was the one that told me the place closes at 7:30 when I walked in at 6:30. I thought — who cares, I have plenty of time. Little did I know my order wasn't going to come out for 30 minutes! It felt like I was sitting there forever. I finished my water and then asked for a drink when she finally came back 30 minutes later. The diner was NOT busy. Maybe 3 other tables had guests. I ordered comfort food — chopped steak with mashed potatoes and corn. It was a large portion and it was good. The mashed potatoes and gravy had an odd color but everything was tasty. It was the vibe of the place that put me off. A man came in at one point with the food that he had picked up earlier, screaming about how it was undercooked. The owner took the food out of the container and handed it back to the cook. I'm not even sure what it was. It was just so off putting, especially NOW after reading so many reviews about that kind of thing. I worried later, about whether I would have a stomach ache "later" and I did not. So overall, my food was very good, the service and atmosphere was odd. I wouldn't go back as I would try somewhere else on Austin Street ... and there were tons of places!
If you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast, look no further than the Austin House Diner. This small community diner offers friendly and great service that will make you feel right at home. The menu features classic breakfast dishes that are cooked to perfection, including fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and eggs any style. The staff is always accommodating and makes sure that every customer is well taken care of. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food will keep you coming back for more. I highly recommend giving the Austin House Diner a try!
Clean place, great service, the food was alright, great coffee and the best lemon meringue pie. My mom got a cherry pie that she didn’t like and they exchanged it for her at no additional cost.
Terrible customer service. The manager is extremely rude. I modify my meal by telling them instead of ham I wanted to substitute with lox they told me that it was going to be an additional $7 dollars… that makes absolutely no sense because instead of the ham I’m asking for lox, it shouldn’t be charged as a side order. If they would’ve brought out a decent amount, I would not mind paying the additional $7 but instead, they brought me 3 extremely thin, disgusting spine slices. How is it that I’m telling them to replace the ham with lox and they end up charging me more for less food ?? Will never be returning
Place is a filthy dump and they are nasty. Save your money. What a shame because the area needs a diner. This place needs an entire overhaul. New owners, New management, new staff and new food. They clearly put out the bare minimum. They have die hard regulars that keep this place afloat- seems to be mostly elderly people who probably don't even notice how dirty and low quality the place is. Come here and try it out and tell me I'm wrong.
My go-to diner in my area. The food is always fresh, better than I anticipate, and the service from Carolina is the friendliest and most professional. The entire team there is on point. How I ask for my bacon is perfectly delivered. Yes, I like mine extra crispy. None better. I normally get breakfast. This time I went for an early dinner and I loved my grilled cheddar and tomato on rye. I added the crispy bacon myself, as I prefer and it was the crispiest, cheesiest I've had in a long time.
It’s obvious that no one takes care of this place. The place is old. The menus are old and you cannot understand anything because Items are repetitively written. The food tastes terrible. I went there with my wife and we feel sick. Whatever you do, just avoid it.Food: 1/5
i came into this diner on saturday and ordered a chicken noodle soup and a coffee and while i was waiting to get my food and while i’m waiting, i see a cockroach crawling up onto the table. i called the waitress over and informed her about it and she killed it with her hand and cleaned it up and said she was sorry for that. the waitress was very kind i’ll give them that. but after when my soup arrived , i’m about to eat my food and by that time i was already a little park ions now with seeing the roach before so i take a good look at my soup and while i move the spoon around the soup i see a brown small thing float up to the surface of the soup and i ask the waiter for a lime, after she brought me the lime i went back to look at the brown thing to inspect it and i took it out of the soup with my spoon and placed it on top of the limes peel and when i looked closely it was ANOTHER cockroach. i immediately called the waitress over again and informed her again and she had told me that she was very sorry and went to speak with her manager and she then informed me that i would not have to pay for any of the things i ordered but it kinda sucked because i was okay with paying for the food if i was actually able to enjoy it but unfortunately after seeing the roach in my soup i couldn’t.
If you want just a good dinner with nothing fancy, this nails it. Good dinner food. Great breakfast. Very frequent coffee refills. Highly recommend.Food: 4/5
