I had such a wonderful experience with Avalon One Care Midwifery! Since my very first appointment with them at 6 weeks pregnant, I have only had the most wonderful experience with each midwife that I met and all the support staff. My husband and I were most impressed by the way the midwives never made us feel rushed, were able to answer all our questions thoroughly and competently, and just had an overall positive and caring energy. I had a natural birth a month ago with the Midwives Jackie, Lisa and Renee. Their care was beyond anything my husband and I could have hoped for. They were attentive, caring, professional and motivational throughout! They made sure the energy was calm, kept me informed of what was happening and what to expect to come and they checked on the baby consistently. While I pushed, they were literally my cheerleaders and guided me along the most difficult part. They worked effortlessly during all the changes within each part of the birth. I cannot thank them enough for keeping me and my baby healthy and safe! I will continue going to their practice for my gynecological visits instead of an OBGYN. I’ve had a way better experience with them than any doctor before. I cannot say enough great things about the them and highly recommend their practice!
Switched from a GYN to this midwives around 6 month’s pregnant, because I was aiming for a natural water birth at the birthing center. They also had great reviews. Birthing plan did not go as planned and ended up going to the hospital. Once at the hospital there was just 1 Midwife for all the woman that were giving birth under their care. I was disappointed from the first appt but decided to give it chance, at the 2nd appointment I still had a gut feeling that it was not for me. By third appt I met Donna their boss and decided to stay. My first appt, I needed a letter for my job because they had transferred me to a different city with a big belly with the parking blocks away and up a very steep hill. It was summer 85+ weather. I had just been transferred & it was the first week at the work site. And it happen to fall on my first appt at Avalon. It was not safe for me with a belly & the heat. I told the midwife my concerns and that I needed a letter to give to HR because I needed accommodation or to be transferred back to the work site I was originally from ASAP. The Midwife said she would provide me w/a letter for HR, once I went to schedule my next appt she called me to a room & said she could not give me that letter until my next appt in 4 weeks! I could not believe it. In 4 weeks I could had gone into early labor, a heat stroke or god knows what!!! I remember telling the scheduling staff “if this midwife isn’t listening to me now, how do I know she would listen to me while I’m giving birth? This experience should had been my red flag to switch care. I wish I would had listened to my gut the first time. Once I went to give birth The midwife that was working at the hospital did not have time for me I basically pushed actively for 5 hours and probably saw the midwife 3xs. The hospitals delivery nurse 1 was the one assisting me. After actively pushing for 5 hours. The doctor & the midwife came into the room & said “it was not normal for me to be pushing for 5 hours and no progress was being made”. Which during labor after a while I could not continue to push, I was beyond exhausted and cried at one point stating I could not push anymore. It was suggested to vacuumm the baby or use forceps that they would reassess in an hour after i was finally allowed to rest. I hate to say this but it makes me wonder if I was a white woman would my experience had been different? Once the hour came the Midwife and doctor assisted by pushing on my stomach and the midwife basically ripping my vagina to pull baby out. If the midwife had assisted me from the beginning and was more aware of me, I am 100% sure that I would had a faster birth. I didn’t really have that 1 to 1 care w the midwife and it was beyond disappointing. The first Midwife I met was not the same one that was assigned to Morristown hospital that day. I was so excited to make this switch to this midwife and I must say my expectations of this place was WAY TOO HIGH. Also the secretary at the front desk isn’t likable, her customer service sucks has an attitude all the time. I went back for my post partum apt I did not want too but I did just to share this experience and my concerns to them. So no other woman goes through what I went through, for their lack of midwifes, which I did. Once I got there, there was an issue as well, they had cancelled my appt because i called in saying I wanted to meet with the boss BUT I wanted to keep my 6 wk appt. I needed 2 appts. The post care and one to meet with doona their boss. Which was their mistake. I obviously needed the appts I had just gave birth why would I cancel? That day, i almost was not seen. The front secretary was not understandable and rude. After that appointment, I decided not to go to the 2nd appt to speak with their boss because this place gives me ptsd and it’s a waste of time. I’m am telling you, as a woman.. stay away..and as a woman of color .. STAY AWAY!
I am so thankful to have had the support from all the amazing midwife’s here at Axia! This is my 2nd pregnancy here with them and each one was great especially my 2nd pregnancy with Jackie back in July. She really reminded me of my strength and power through out birth and made us feel so comfortable. Definitely looking forward to going back for my future babies!
These midwives & staff treated me like family. Drove two hours each way to visit them and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. They are all so kind and knowledgeable. They kept me relaxed and well-informed. They respected, supported, and nurtured me and my sweet babe. Was with Donna and Kim towards the last few weeks of my pregnancy and they were with me at the hospital. Without them I would have been induced! Kim delivered my babe and was excellent. Loved how laid-back she was, she kept me calm, even gave my babe a little mohawk while he was crowning. Can’t express in words how much I love them, just feel honored to have them in my life. Sending love and thanks from Atlantic County, NJ. See you for baby #2.
Avalon provided the best healthcare experience I've ever had. They provide an incredible blend of flexibility and pragmatism- I really appreciate their emphasis on evidence-based. Each midwife we spoke to took the time to get to know us and understand our needs, which made me truly felt taken care of. Our drive was from about 40min away.
Absolutely the most caring, amazing group of midwives out there!!!!!! Joann, Lisa, Donna, Jennifer. They were all absolutely incredible! Their front desk staff is top notch! The incredible phlebotomist and ultrasound tech too! Absolutely best experience thus far! Unheard of in medicine!
Absolutely hands down the best group of women. The nurses, ultrasound tech, and front desk staff all super nice! All the midwives are so nice and caring. They ask you your wishes and goals and they respect your wishes. They are very knowledgeable and constantly ask you if you have questions or concerns. They spend time with you and actually listen. Kim delivered both my children and she was absolutely FANTASTIC! So easy going soft spoken able to keep me calm because im a nervous wreck. I highly highly recommend Avalon! And if Kim sees this- THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being so great with me for both my kids, you’re amazing!
Best birth experience ever from day 1 thanks to Donna, Krisann, and all of the midwives that took care of me during my first pregnancy. As a provider myself I could tell they were thorough, supportive, advocated for mom and baby, had excellent bedside manner, and took their time answering every question and concern I had. They were accessible at the office, and even sometimes via cell and text.. there’s not much more you could ask for. I was able to have my perfect birth after taking the mindful birth hypnobirthing class and delivered at the birth center with Donna .. it was everything I hoped for and more. I look back on that day with such pride and joy. I am excited for my next birthing experience because of Avalon!
After a long dramatic pregnancy changing from previous midwives of another place to an obgyn I luckily was able to deliver with Nicole and Kim from Avalon Midwives and I couldn’t of been happier. I was happy I was able to have the midwife experience during labor just happened to not of known the two ladies prior. They made me feel so comfortable despite in my opinion the crazy and funny labor I had. Nicole knew exactly what I needed and wanted. Kim has such a caring and loving personality too. They made me feel like they had known me for years. I just so happened to have them during delivery and did not see them any time prior to. I will continue to use Avalon Midwives because of the wonderful labor experience I had with them. They were very confident and made me feel good and that is what I like! Thanks ladies!!!
The women are certainly kind & caring...however, I saw a few red flags when I was a patient that ultimately led me to switch to another practice. To put it bluntly, I'm sure these women could deliver a baby just fine in a healthy and normal pregnancy, but they certainly do not seem to have organization in the practice or the skills needed if any TINY thing goes wrong during pregnancy. First, I was told that the very expensive genetic testing included SMA but I did not see it in my results. It turns of the midwife forgot to check it off before sending to the lab so I never got the testing I was told I would get. Second, when the anatomy scan showed a different gender than what the NIPT revealed, no one was concerned AT ALL that the chromosomal testing could also be inaccurate. Even when the lab said that the petri dish was contaminated and was giving false results, they kind of just ignored the fact that the rest of the test could possibly be inaccurate too. The final straw was when I had a 28 week ultrasound and the in-house ultrasound tech told me "Your placenta is still too close to your cervix". I never heard of this being an issue at my other two ultrasounds so I'm not sure why she said "still". She then warned me that I might need a c-section. Panicked, I booked an appointment with a doctor for a second opinion. Turns out, placenta was absolutely fine. I switched practices that day.
