I was in from out of town on a Friday night when my car needed to be towed and repaired at Highland Park Ford. The repair would take a few days so I needed a rental on Saturday morning. I had frequently rented from Enterprise so I called them first. Nothing in the area was open on a Saturday. Same with Hertz. So I continued to look for options and I see that there is an Avis at Highland Park Ford. They were open until 2:00 and we were able to get a great car on very short notice. I wasn't exactly sure when our car would be repaired and the agent said to just call if I needed to extend and it would be no problem. When I mentioned how great they were open on Saturday he said they have other locations that are also open on Sunday. Both getting the rental car and returning it was seamless. Car trouble is stressful but Avis was a bright spot!
I've never rented with Avis before, but I am now a life-long customer. The prices, professionalism and ease of use are unparalleled. I rented an SUV to take my daughter to school out west. The experience was easeful and they gave me the perfect vehicle.
Muhammad exceeded our expectations with his exceptional service! He provided invaluable assistance during our Tesla Model Y rental, going the extra mile to ensure the car was ready precisely when we needed it. His dedication to customer satisfaction was truly outstanding. A big shoutout to Muhammad for making our experience outstanding!
When I arrived, my prepaid car had been given to someone else. The owner was unbelievably rude and it took everything I had to stay agreeable and plead for his help. After stroking his ego for what seemed like an eternity, he finally agreed to give me another car and told me I should feel lucky and that he will pass the problem on to the next customer. I couldn't believe the treatment I was given at this Avis location. Never again.
I reserved a car on expedia at least 2-3 weeks in advance! For some odd reason I wasn’t able to pre pay! I get to the location at 4:30 on 7/13 at 6517 n lincoln to pick up my rental. She swipes my debit card & says I need a credit card! Ok No problem! Sorry, it says I can’t rent to come back tomorrow! WTH I’m driving out tonight! She didn’t care they closed at 5 & she said previously that she has a life because I didn’t know it closed so early! So my family is disappointed! I start calling around either places was closed ot soon to be closing at 6. I call customer service to see what the airport has! I asked if I’m able to use 2 different cards she said yes! Drive to the airport, NO SPLIT PAYMENTS so I cancel that reservation & find a cheaper one online that I pay for! Which 99% of the time I do! So I get to the avis in northbrook at 8am that’s inside of the hotel. He said give me like 15mins because it just opened. Cool I’m waiting he then ask me where I work why is that your concern I’m thinking! He said you have a discount on here & if you don’t work there I can’t grant the discount! Huh, like OMG! I asked what it say? Him you tell me! I said I have a free day & ohh amazon! Yeah! Okay, its not a discount! From there he treated me like a convict he would ignore me & he said I don’t have no cars, which was a lie! He said I may get some at 11! It was already paid for! At one point he left but he would never communicate with me so I had to call customer service to see where else I can go because I needed to get on the road! So I was directed to highland park! 10 mins away! I get there I have only electric vehicles, NOT go work on a road trip!! Annoyed ASL! The young man I will say helped me out & got us a vehicle & we was finally on our way! I usually only rent from avis but lately I’ve been having a really bad experience with them! Not just in my home state but in the other states I travel too! Amir Merchant at renaissance north shore location was very rude & I don’t recommend this location! He was also asking people on the phone where they work! Very unprofessional
Overall, the experience was good up until the return. But, after I returned and car was inspected and I got my receipt, they added a $450 charge without explanation. I assume it’s for dog hair, but that was there when they inspected and if you’re going to charge someone $450 or 50% of the entire rental, you should let them know. I have no idea how to DM Avis — as suggested below. My agreement number is 411929092
Easily my go-to from now on while renting on the North Shore. I have top-tier status with Avis and have rented from dozens of locations around Chicagoland and across the country...this easily the best Avis location I've ever utilized. I rented from this location for a full 2-month rental of a Full-Size SUV and got the beautiful Ford Expedition you see pictured. Keith went above and beyond to ensure the rental was smooth and painless. Can't recommend enough.
If I could give zero stars I would. I showed up here with my 80 year old mother who I had reserved a car for months ago. We were immediately treated with hostility from Oscar who told me I booked too many reservations and that they were canceled. I quickly looked at my reservation that I made through Costco and I only had one then I also looked at my Avis account and again I only had one reservation that was not canceled. I asked him what happened and told him I only had one reservation my mom and I were both confused he again said too bad I canceled them because of people like you. He told us to leave, I told him he was being extremely rude and he told us to get out. He said he was the owner and he wanted us to get out. We left and I called Avis directly who told me that I did have a reservation so I walked back in and then Oscar told the Avis customer service representative and my mother and I that he had no cars. I said so that’s why you canceled my reservation? He said yes now get out. We found a reservation at the enterprise on Skokie Valley Road they could not have been nicer, more accommodating and wonderful customer service. I called Avis customer service again to file a complaint with Oscar‘s company and Avis told me that they’re not affiliated with Avis corporate but they took the complaint and said that 1333 Park Ave. W. in Highland Park at the Ford dealership is not affiliated with Avis corporation.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I had an experience with a different Avis location a year ago in Elmhurst that wasn't very good, but I figured I'd try it again since it was a year later in a completely different area. My mistake. This Avis location is absolutely awful. The guy who apparently owns this location is extremely rude and gives information that he seems to be pulling out of his a** in the moment. I made a reservation through our work traveling app, and made sure I read through the terms of the rental agreement BEFORE hitting confirm to reserve the car. No where in those terms did it mention needing a credit card to hold the amount of the rental + a $200 deposit. Now I know for the future, that's fine. I asked the owner if we could transfer my reservation to my husbands name and put the rental cost + deposit on his card we recently got married so my credit card name hasn't been updated to match my drivers license yet - that's my fault. He said that's totally fine. I told him we needed to run back home and grab my husband's credit card we live 5 minutes away and again, he confirmed that's completely fine. We ran home and grabbed the card. At this point, maybe 7-10 minutes have passed since we left the rental office and the "owner" calls me and says he can't transfer the reservation to my husband because "Avis won't let him". I think it's bs, because why would he say it's completely fine to do before I left and then change his mind? If he's a franchise owner, he should understand and be aware of ALL Avis rental policies. I then ask if we can just rebook with my husband's information. He said no because apparently now they don't have any cars. That makes no sense. What happened to the car I had reserved? He said it went to the next person. So you're telling me within the 7-10 minute time span that we went to grab the credit card, someone reserved another car? I call bs. He said they had no more cars. I went onto Avis and checked if they had cars available for rental that day still, and they had plenty. When I asked the "owner" he said "you can book it but it'll just say there's no cars". He was extremely rude the whole time. If I have one recommendation, DO NOT GO HERE. Go anywhere else if possible. The Highland Park Ford dealership that this little shack is attached to should somehow ask them to leave, because they just have a skeezy franchised rental car "owner" giving the worst customer service to people. I will never be booking with Avis again.
