Terrible experience. No car available even though I arrived an hour after the arrange pick up time. Told I would have to wait for a car. Could not give me any idea how long I would have to wait. Could be hours. I enquired about an upgrade, which was of course available for an additional charge. While I was there, at least three others came in with the same issue. One saying it happened the last time she rented from them. Clearly a regular occurance. In the end, we accepted the upgrade fee because we just wanted to get on the road. The car we were given was not cleaned. Cigarette lighter, empty water bottle, etc rolling around in the back and the car STUCK OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. Went back in thinking we might get another one but was just told it would be noted so we were not charged for cleaning! I don't necessarily blame the guy behind the counter. He was clearly suffering from PTSD of doing his job. AVIS needs to review this franchise immediately. The office is a mess. The service is a mess. The car was a mess. Reflects very poorly on the AVIS name. Do yourself a favor and rent from someone else in this part of the world. **Update: After getting the final receipt, it does appear that we were not charged for the upgrade.
By far one of the poorest customer service and car renting experiences I’ve ever had. Arrived and walked inside, deshelved man behind the counter didn’t even bother to look up at me and say “hello” or “welcome” or anything just kept staring at the computer and finally said “one minute”. When he finally acknowledged me I gave him my information for my reservation he then proceeded to say he didn’t have the size car I had requested. He then said all he could do was the next size up, ok not a problem. He asked for my credit card and proceeded to tell me I didn’t have enough on the card and stated for my $190 rental I needed over $500 on the card for a “deposit “. My wife was on the phone and also spoke with him as she had made the reservation and said she never saw anything about a deposit. He was extremely rude with her despite her not being nearly as assertive as she could have been. After he wouldn’t back down that I needed over $500 for my rental for the “deposit”, he handed me the keys and stated I was not welcome back. The building itself was filthy and looked like a storage closet turned into an office space. I wouldn’t be nearly as displeased if he had just simply explained how their system works. 0/5 DO NOT RECOMMEND
The service agent at this location has on many occasions , provided atrocious service . as seen echoed in the many other reviews Since last review . Operator provided a car with what appeared to be vomit in the rental car all windows down when I got to rental car, potentially indicating cognizant of car condition . Other issues experienced but not limited to : - Tries on multiple occasions to overcharge client - provided cars with inaccurate fuel readings - Rents cars in poor state filthy interiors As a presidents club member of Avis , this is by far the worst experience I have encountered using Avis .. it’s only this particular location - which happens to be the only available Avis local to me
Pre Paid and Booked for a particular type of car. Got a call an hour before pick up and was told that the car was not available. I requested a refund but was told to call reservations as he did not have time to organise a refund.
Absolute nightmare! The man running front desk was horrible! I originally made a reservation for a week at Key Largo location and returned it after one day use.. had to drive all the way to Marathon because the guy at the counter told me they would be open but when I try to make the reservation online it kept saying they were closed. So I drove to the marathon location and remade another reservation for a week through budget so it was a total of 8 days and was charged over $700 because the guy at the counter wanted to charge me over $300 for one day you use! Then he proceeds to tell us when we returned the car that it looked like there was throw up in the floor which there was not throw up in the floor because I only used it to go to and from work and charge me another extra $60 out of nowhere without notifying me or without my permission and I only realized it when I checked my credit card later on which by the way was only given to hold the $200 deposit and I did not give them permission to charge that card I was going to pay with debit but they decided on their own to go ahead and charge my credit card $700. I called Avis customer service and spoke with three different people and was told that the full amount would be refunded to me from Avis and waited about a week and my credit card still said negative hundred seven hundred and something dollars so I called again today and a lovely supervisor from budget name Diana confirmed that I only had it for a day and help me adjust the amount. I feel like the guy fraudulently charged my card and because of him not fixing the situation me calling customer service several times did nothing because at the end of the day they left a note and their system saying I needed to contact the counter managerafter I was told by three different customer service representatives I would be refunded thr full amountand these phone calls are sapposed to be recorded so there should be documentation When I try to contact the front desk the guy told me he didn't have nothing in front of him that I needed to call and talk to customer service at this point I was so frustrated it had me breaking down and crying after speaking with the supervisor finally before she fixed it for me. I will never rent with Avis or Budget again after this experience. The only one who was willing to help was Diana which was the only one that took the time to listen to me and break down the charges and get to the bottom of it. I'm a local and I'm very upset by this and I'm actually kind of worried that they have my credit card because of all the additional random charges that have been charged on my card after I return my vehicle without my permission. It kind of makes me wonder how many other people this is happened to. This is not the way to do business.
I placed a reservation for 1pm then called to confirm my reservation. I went to call the guy I talked to back to let him know I would be there at 1pm since this is when they close. He shut the phones off at 12:50 so I got the automated answering service who was no help. My husband and I get to the Avis and he man was inside finishing with another customer, who luckily for us was nice enough to give us a ride back to our hotel because the guy working wouldn't give us our rental bc it was 1pm and he locked the doors. I can't believe a company would be ok with having someone come get their rental then leaving them stranded all because it was an inconvenience to get out of work a little late. So now going forward I will reconsider rental a vehicle from Avis since this was the absolute worst experience and customer service I have ever witnessed and received. And anyone who asks about renting a vehicle I will steer elsewhere.
Would be zero stars if the rating was available. Arrived for a 1pm collection to find the office closed with no notice posted. Only when I enquired later on my bus to Key West was I told that no cars were available, a fact that would have saved me two Uber trips and 30 minutes cooking in an empty car lot had I known it earlier. If Avis is my only transport option in the future, I'll likely walk to my destination.
I don't give five stars lightly. Matt was wonderful right from the beginning. I actually had three rentals with him in 5 days. I first booked a convertible. Matt apologized, said he didn't have one in stock even though the AVIS website claimed there was one. Matt explained that the site isn't always accurate, but he would accommodate us with a Jeep. The Jeep actually better fit our needs and he gave it to us for less than it's rental price. I returned the Jeep the next day only to realize that the cab needed for the other activities we would be doing that day would cost as much as the rental. Matt gave no objections, didn't even have me do more paper work, just handed the keys back and said "have fun". The third rental was to get my family back to Tampa. We needed something large and Matt upgraded us with no extra charge. Service was impeccable and the communication good. Thanks Matt!
Wish the owner would've let us wait inside for our shuttle, which arrived 10 minutes after we turned in our keys, BUT, all in all, it was a good experience. Got the compact car we reserved, deposit came back onto my card 2 days after turning in the rental, pick up and drop off were quick and easy. Definitely a place that will meet your basic needs for a care rental
When I dropped off my rental, the doors were locked so I had to knock on the door for assistance. The employee then asked where I was parked, took my keys and told me I was good to go. No receipt was given. Two days later I received an unexpectedly high charge. They charged an extra day despite turning in the car three hours before the drop off time as well as an additional charge for fueling despite me prepaying a tank of gas with the rental which I alerted the employee I had done. While disputing the charge with Avis, the customer service representative hung up on me after 30 minutes on the phone. When I contacted email support, they essentially said nothing can be done if you don’t have a rental return slip. Great system for taking advantage of customers and making extra cash.
