I had two great experiences here. The first when I picked up on 06-08-23. Pickup was quick and easy. Then right after I returned the rental on 06-12-23, United cancelled all of our flights causing me to rent another car and drive to Denver to catch a flight home. I'm not sure of the gentleman's name wears glasses, long beard but he was very helpful to myself and other customers in the same predicament. The drop off in Denver was super easy too. Well done Avis and the man with the great beard!
My Avis rental car Toyota RAV 4 was clean & up to the task of negotiating the steep mountain roads required to reach my destination. Car pick up & drop off at Durango airport was quick & very easy. First time renting from Avis but I will do it again if the need arises.
This location's manager gave me a car with almost all thread gone on tire. I later returned to get replacement and the manager said he does not have any car when there were half dozen parked outside late in the evening. And he said this thread is just fine. I later had a flat tire.
Competitive pricing purchased and paid for in advance, upgraded vehicle and good pick up and drop off experience at the tiny Durango airport.
Worst rental car company !!! Conflicting info on the web left us stranded in Colorado. Would not tank a bank debit card that is approved to be taken on the web info. Left us out in the cold!!!
We showed up 30 minutes prior to a 24 hour rental. We were instructed to drop our keys in the drop box due to line. Today, we find we have been double charged. 2 days and a late fee.
I have traveled for 50 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had. The bearded man at the Avis desk in Durango, CO was perhaps the rudest counter person I have ever met. He was rude and arrogant when I picked up the car. I was traveling on orders from the US Armed Services. I returned the car two days later because our travel orders were cancelled. I was charged over $600 for two days of a Toyota Camry. I can rent a new Audi from Silver Car MUCH cheaper than that. Avis has shown its willingness to cheat consumers and the US Armed Services for the benefit of making high profits.
I had a terrible rental from Avis. Not only did the car break down on the side of a highway in a VERY remote area in Arizona with nearly no shoulder for protection, but my contact with Avis throughout this problem and after was, with a couple of noteworthy exceptions, extremely unpleasant. It took nearly 9 hours for our breakdown ordeal to be taken care of-- and many, many, many calls to Avis. Avis arranged for us to replace the car at a rental office that was nearly 3 hours from our breakdown and when I noticed that that office would be closed when our tow truck arrived, another ordeal ensued where Avis offered up NO appropriate solutions-- in fact, the agent suggested that my teenage son and I be dropped at the closed location and THEN call BACK to customer service to ask for a car to be sent from the Phoenix airport-- nearly 3 hours away-- it was an outrageous solution after an impossibly long day of problems. Despite my requests during my call with Avid customer support, the agent would not/could not come up with any solution. I ultimately contacted the manager of the Flagstaff, AZ airport location who, after hearing how awful my experience was, was WONDERFUL and took pity on me and stayed at the location an extra hour and a half to make certain we were cared for. Darren Smart should be commended for his AMAZING customer care. When I returned the new car at the Phoenix airpot, I was made to wait nearly 20 minutes before a manager would speak with me-- he explained that he would reimburse me for a gas charge, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY FULL! He was rude and remarkably unhelpful, offering only 2 days off this rental. You should also know, that when I picked the car up in Durango there was a low tire light-- i was already 15 minutes from the pick up location when I noticed it, so I called the agent to see what to do. He suggested I fill the tire myself-- when I did, I encountered a problem with the air pump and some local mechanics jumped in to help and discovered that the tire was, in fact, blow up to 55!!!! They were amazed I didn't have a blow out. They checked the car over and noticed that the break fluid was nearly empty! Outrageous. My experience post-rental has been equally frustrating- each call to Avis consistently takes many minutes on hold and I have been disconnected several times. The only offer they gave was for 1/2 off the rental and a free 3 day coupon for only the lowest class of cars. I insured hotel costs, food costs, towing costs. AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE.
Made online reservation and was kept up to date right up to when I got off the plane and walked up to the counter. Right away was as told there was an upgrade available that I was happy with.
The only reason I rate this as a one star is because Google will not let me leave zero stars. I reserved a car to pick up at the Durango La-Plata County Airport for 9:30am the advertised opening time on Thursday December 1st, but the customer service rep who was supposed to be working that day didn't arrive until almost 10am. I was on a tight schedule that day and told him as much, but he didn't care. No apology, explanation, nothing. Then when I returned the car in Pueblo, CO, the customer service rep was not very pleasant. I work in customer service myself and would be looking at disciplinary action if I ever behaved the way your reps did towards my customers. I will definitely be looking at other car rental companies in the future as this is unacceptable.
