Avon Valley Show Stables is a premium care, full service equestrian facility. We are located on 30 acres of beautiful grassy fields overlooking the Farmington River. We offer a wide range of services and are dedicated to providing a quality facility for the equine athlete and rider. Avon Valley Show Stables is home to many rated and schooling hunter/jumper shows.

Our facility offers daily turnout in 20 individual paddocks. We have 30 acres of open fields for riding, grazing, and walking your dog! During the warmer months we offer full courses of show quality jumps for lessons and schooling.

Avon Valley Show Stables features a large 80′ x 200′ brightly lit indoor arena with custom leather footing. Our outdoor sand arena is 150’ x 250’ with stadium lighting for evening riding. Both arenas are watered and groomed daily.

Many of our staff members live on the premises providing 24 hour care. We have around the clock horse transportation in the event of veterinary emergencies or last minute appointments. Our staff maintains close working relationships with our Veterinarians and Blacksmiths which service our barn regularly.

Avon Valley Show Stables aims to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere for both horse and rider. We are dedicated to excellence in equine education by providing a quality facility with first-rate staff.

I love AVSS! After looking at various stables around CT I have found one with people who are warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. As a shy, new rider I was intimidated to switch to such an established barn. However, everyone I have met here at AVSS is supportive and assuring. Their indoor ring is beautiful and well-kept as well as the upstairs viewing area. This barn is spectacular and I am so lucky to have found it!
This is regarding riding lessons for kids. Unfortunately, in my family’s experience, this wasn’t what it was represented to be. The most concerning issue was when my child fell off a horse and no one from the stable bothered to tell me. Prior to that, there were other issues, not nearly as dangerous. Our lessons were shorted often, especially if the previous lesson went long, the trainer/instructor wanted to leave early, etc. Trainers were frequently changed making for a lack of consistency. Communication was a mess. It was rare to reach anyone or even have a call returned during business hours. Confirmed scheduling and payments with the office manager rarely translated into the trainers actually having the same information, which caused unnecessary problems, often. A couple of trainers seemed to openly dislike kids, not just mine. Our instructors often sat in a corner of the arena for the lesson, and chatted with each other, instead of staying nearer to the horses and riders, which seemed ill-advised given the arena’s large size and dim light. Cannot recommend, but if you do try it for children’s lessons, plan to supervise consistently.
I am VERY happy with AVSS! I have noticed some of the reviews stating that lessons are short...those are false and misleading statements. Part of taking a lesson at AVSS is NOT simply getting on and riding, but also about learning everything that needs to happen before and after. Not every lesson is easy, riding is hard work. It is unfortunate that many people have been unhappy with this process. Please be assured, AVSS is the place to get high quality instruction in a beautiful setting with caring, knowledgeable instructors. Our daughter has been riding for 15 years in many places, and over the past two years, Avon Valley Show Stable has made her a better and more confident rider.
Great trainers, nice horses, fun and educational riding lessons with competent staff! Very nice facility with kind boarders and friendly faces!
My daughter and I started taking lessons here together. We are both complete beginners. Within 6 months we are both comfortably riding on our own. Emer Coyne is not only a wonderful trainer but she also managed to find us a horse that was affordable and a perfect match for both myself and my daughter. The staff is wonderful. The atmosphere is positive. I couldn’t have asked for a better place! We look forward to many more lessons, horse shows, friends and fun at Avon Valley Show Stables!!
The stables and horseshow were terrific. The competition was friendly and fulfilling. A nice treat, they had a terrific concessionaire at the show. Fresh made breakfast sandwiches, hash browns and hot coffee & tea, followed by lunch of burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders all served fresh made by a couple of great guys. They did a great job and helped make the whole experience even more fun.
WARNING!!! Very unpleasant experience. SHORT Lessons ONLY 15 min riding time/lesson! Very inconsistent and unreliable people SARAH STEVENSON. First couple trips were ok, SARAH STEVENSON wanted to be our BFF. Then for health reason I stopped riding and changed my son to a different schedule, suddenly she turned into a total stranger and gave my son's lessons to a minor helper without consulting us, nor did she communicate new schedule to anybody despite multiple imessages confirmed delivery and phone calls for confirmation, then COUPLE MONTHS later she hackled us claiming we owed her money, arguing the new schedule that we agreed upon was retro-actively not valid because “the new trainer did not know”. Go at your own risk!!! NOTED: the owner Sarah B. different person was totally reasonable, she did help to clear everything up
Be extremely careful with any financial dealings with this barn and get second opinions with experts of your choosing. Experienced horse people know these things but amateurs may not: if buying a horse, get a pre-sale vet check by a vet of your choosing, get prior medical records and talk with former owners.
Such a well maintained stable. Went to an IEA show that my niece was in. Very well run.
My wife loves this place. You don't have to own a horse to get great lessons with quality horses. It's rare around here.
